24p just has duplicate frames added to the file as it is writing to the P2 card. You should be able to removable it on ingest but it seems you are having issues. If you take the ingest clips at 59.98 select them in the bin and go to Tools> DVCPro HD framerate conversion to get them to 23.98. This can be confirmed in the frame rate column of the clips.

“720p DVCPRO HD camcorders can record 24 fps footage within a 60 fps signal by
duplicating frames. The duplicate frames are usually flagged within the DVCPRO HD
video signal so applications like Final Cut Pro can automatically remove them. You can
also remove duplicate frames using a frame rate converter (such as the DVCPRO HD
Frame Rate Converter in Final Cut Pro).”

My car is not running well, anyone know what’s wrong?

Not trying to be mean, just making a point. How do you expect anyone to be able to offer help from the info (or lack of info) in your post?

to use all the core is a major rewrite of code, don’t expect anything like that until FCS3 and Snow Leopard

Vegas people love Vegas, they are more rabid fans then us FCP users. but if you already have FCP and are upgrading a system you already for the software that you would have to buy on the PC.

ProRes of course is Mac only as far as encoding.

they are probably asking for a transport stream version of mpeg2. This is something that Compressor would encode but without the specs it is all guessing. But even if Compressor cannot you would add to get an encoder that could but it would always be done outside of FCP.

June 16, 2009 at 7:50 pm in reply to: Bad interlacing when burning to DVD

[Cisco McCarthy] “My sequence setting is set to H.264 for compressor” This is not a codec you should be using, anything that needs to be rendered will be rendered to that. You should be using the codec you captured the tapes with.

Your problem is somewhere you are swapping the field order. Which is why de-interlacing helps to fix the problem. But once again, if the end result is a DVD which plays back interlaced when you de-interlace you are reducing the quality of the video, it is blending and throwing out one of the fields.

If you are capturing standard DV footage from the deck, then you should be using the DV easy setup in FCP.

I’m a little disappointed with the function over design. Why not go the extra mile and use multi-colored outlets or covers to create a pattern or mosaic in the background. I wonder if the wall has a built in UPS behind it?

    June 16, 2009 at 5:20 pm in reply to: P2 card/SDHC

They won’t work, you have to buy P2 cards for those cameras.

No idea what adapter you are talking about but even if there is one that converts the SDHC cards to a PCMCIA form factor, it would still not be P2 compatible.

FWIW – a P2 card has (4) SD cards that are RAIDed (is that a word?) together to give the record speed needed for handling the data rates of the HD formates. HDV cameras can get away with the small cards because HDV data rate is less the standard DV data rates, a 1/4 of DVCProHD.

[pedro casais] “firestore allows you to choose the compression” No they don’t, you have to set the Firestore to match you camera’s setting. So if the camera is on HDV, the FS is on HDV, if camera is DVCProHD, the FS is DVCProHD and so on. The Firestore does NOT do any compression.

1.85:1 is a non-video tape resolution, which is fine if you want it to have the this look on a file that is played back on a computer.

Two ways of doing it – Letterboxing it in FCP and a Widescreen mask 1.85:1 to the 16:9 timeline. This will give you black bars on top and bottom and this is what you would want if you are going to tape.

Crop top and bottom of image. In compressor take a QT of the final movie. (this does not work for AVI so you will need to do another codec and then get that to AVI
    New QT Movie

    Encoder Tab
Encoder Type: AVI (set options to your needs)

    Geometry Tab
    Source Inset (Cropping)
Crop to Custom Top 22 | Bottom 22 (this should keep your interlaced field order correct)
Dimensions (encoded pixels: will change to 1920 | 1036 (grayed out)

As you can see their is not that much of a difference between 16:9 (1.78:1) and 1.85:1.
