This is a job for Compressor not FCP. If you have the files in the formats like AVCHD and ac3 you should not be in FCP.

Yeap, that is the way to do it and the new Compressor has the send to YouTube built in also. Like Jerry said if you are using an export self contained file to encode there will be no slowdown in FCP. Of course you would not want to use the virtual cluster in Compressor.

There are two trains of thought, shoot as close to the end result as you can in camera vs. shoot flat to give you the most to work with in post. One is not better than the other, if you are doing quick edits not much of budget for post then in camera is the way to go, if you have the time and want the most out of post then shoot flat and neutral has its benefit.

As per Barry Green – B Press has the least amount of noise. In fact in you don’t have his book it is a must have. He really does into all the different settings. But with stuff like this there is no substitute for testing because the B Press might plug up the blacks a bit to much. WIth wanting to lower the noise you need to reduce the detail levels also.

What about fast pocket RAID drives. We will need speed to edit all this uncompressed 4:4:4 H.264 video. Then there is the audio in things again. I bet all those guys that jumped on the HDSLR bandwagon feel pretty stupid right about now. I think this has a full IMAX 70mm sensor in it.

Sounds like it was shoot Letterboxed and not 16:9, though squeezed and barred is odd, do you mean stretched and barred? NOt much you can do about that, was not a capture setting.

This is a major zoom to go up to HD, I would do it in Compressor and use Frame Control set to Best (optical flow) and do test with the

Start with the preset Other Workflows>High Definition>DVCPRO HD 720p60
Frame Control – On
Resize Filter: Best
Outout Fields: Progressive
The rest you have to test to see what gives you the best image

Just about every Hollywood release is going to force letterboxing on a 4:3 screen, in DVDSP by selecting 16:9 Letterbox it will disregard the players setting (or if you select 16:9 Pan & Scan it will always crop the video). But if you select Letterboxing and Pan & Scan it will display the 16:9 as set by the player.
