Also, isn’t Vegas one of the apps were you can edit the H264 natively. If you are grading H264 it will fall apart fast. If you are shooting flat, you have to plan on full on grading. If you are planning full on grading you need to be using an modern video editing codec. Not sure the answer as to what codec to use. For FCP we are using ProRes and AVID has there codec.

If you are not capturing then these mean nothing. Capture is only if your source footage is coming from a tape.
Video Play should always match your sequence settings.

You will never see 24i, 24 is always a progressive frame. On cameras like the HVX it is listed as 1080i/24p, which means the progressive is broken in half (segmented) and sent as 48 half frames. Don’t confuse a half of a progressive frame with an interlaced field. With interlaced fields, 2 of them do not make a progressive frame. Each field is taken at a different time.

The way you are doing it is the way to do it.But a lot of people just make the sequence setting ProRes to match the ProRes footage and drop DVCProHD on it, this will edit fine and playback okay until you apply filters or effects, then it will probably need to be rendered.
Of course it would be good if both are shooting 720p or 1080p and the same frame rate.

there have been a bunch of test and explanation on to HQ and not HQ, in short it takes up space and can cause problems and coming from Video codecs you don’t get better quality.

Do not use (HQ) use normal ProRes.
For the stop and starts, the plural eyes method is good except for the unchecking the self contained. You NEVER want to edit with ref movies. If you ever move the source clip, remain a clip or a folder you are in a world of hurt. But you are correct if you change the codec you have to make a self contain movie.
Do the scaling and moving as a final step, edit the multicam at 1920×01080.

NEVER use DV or HDV for stop motion, never, you adding interlacing and throwing away of color info.
Use ProRes (progressive) and a video resolution 1920×1080 is the top. The frame rate is determined by the look you want, 24 or 30p.
If you are taking still with the camera the video settings never come into play.
One thing I would recommend is using Motion vs FCP to put this together. Since the shoots are sequential Motion can bring them in as a single file, does better with adding pans and zooms. Just a suggestion, if you want to type it out.

You missed the important part of my post, you cannot use H264 to edit with in FCP. That is the delivery codec.

If you are wanting to capture footage as H264 and then edit that in FCP you are going down the wrong path. If you are wanting to encode your final video as H264 take a look at

Go over to the DVDSP forum, search for DVD@ccess why not to use it. Look up DVD@ccess in your manual and you can find how to do it.
What most people to is to just put the pdf in an “EXTRAs” folder on the DVD and a menu page tells them that it is on the disc. Wanting to let people open up the file from the menu brings on nothing but issues.
