    Hello,

I recently shot some footage using 3 cameras. I used a Sony EX1, EX3, and PDW330. (Yes I know I should have used the same model for all three but I the best I could get was that they were all Sony)

Once I pulled the footage in and was ready to begin my multicam sync, I discovered (as we new dodo’s usually do) I did not change the video Format on the PDW330. So what I ended up with is

    Camera 1: Ex1
    Size: 1920X1080
    PAR: Square
    Interlaced: Upper
    Codec: Xdcam Ex 1080i60

    Camera 2: Ex3
    Size 1920X1080
    PAR: Square
    Interlaced: Upper
    Codec: Xdcam Ex 1080i60

    Camera 3: PDW330
    Size: 1440X1080
    PAR: HD(1440X1080)
    Codec: XDCAM HD 1080i60

My PLAN was to have the editing sequence be:
Size:1280X720 (One of my assitants WAY over exagerated his filming skills and his composition is a mess. I was going to use the smaller size so I could have some room to scale and move this camera’s clips around)
    PAR: Square
    Codec: ProRess422 HQ
    Interlace: (use a de-interlace filter)

I also discovered the cameras were stopped at several places. So I have multiple clips from each camera. I was smart enough to tell my sound guy to never stop the external audio recorder so I was able to create a seq for each camera and everyone’s clips are sync’d in time to the audio bed.

Any suggestions on how to prepare the clips for a multicam edit?
I did export a .mov of the PDW330. I sync’d the clips to the audio bed and exported that sequence. I used 1920X1080, Square, ProRess422 HQ. I kept the clip at 100% scale so it has a large black border surrounding the clip. With my final output being 1280X720 I think this will not be an issue.
Should I sync up the other camera’s clips to the audio and export them in the same fashion (1920X1080, square, ProRess422 HQ)?

    Any suggestions would help.

    Thanks

    UPDATED QUESTION:

I just watched a video tutorial from Plural Eyes that confirmed I should place each camera’s clips on it’s own sequence and export a .mov. Then each camera is only one angle and easier to multiclip edit. So here is my question:
The video recomends you UNCHECK make self contained movie. Can I still do that if I am changing the codec?

    Thanks!

Do not use (HQ) use normal ProRes.

For the stop and starts, the plural eyes method is good except for the unchecking the self contained. You NEVER want to edit with ref movies. If you ever move the source clip, remain a clip or a folder you are in a world of hurt. But you are correct if you change the codec you have to make a self contain movie.

Do the scaling and moving as a final step, edit the multicam at 1920×01080.

    Thanks SO MUCH!

Can I ask another question? What is the real difference between ProRess HQ and not HQ?

I have been fighting a HD Greenscreen shoot for a week now. If I try just the ProRess instead of HQ do you think I maybe able to get it to export without crashing?

I am new to using HD and did not realize I really don’t have the Ram to pull it off.

there have been a bunch of test and explanation on to HQ and not HQ, in short it takes up space and can cause problems and coming from Video codecs you don’t get better quality.
