I just captured am entire feature using 2.5.3 same base code as 5.5.3) using this deck. I used the Generic NTSC template and had no problems (even capturing 24fps NORMAL and ADVANCED.

Avid editing products do not yet support the 1080p/24 (really 23.976)with this camera. It can be edited in a 1080i/59.94 project but not natively at 23.976.

    It is true 23.976
    It is true 1080

If you only need the sequence, create a 24 or 25 frame EDL and capture from the original PAL originated sources. This assumes it came from 24 frame sources which can have the 24TC as a common denominator.

Depends on the encoder you are using. Some of them expect 16RGB – 235RGB as per digital television specification – and some expect 0RGB-255RGB. Try setting the QT export to RGB levels and try again.

If you decompress the HDV signal via an external device you will have an analog HD signal. Some devices will keep this digital via an HD-SDI Using an Avid with a DNxcel board, either the analog component or HD-SDI will be captured as one of the DNxHD resolutions.

Or, similar to the DV workflow already discussed, you can capture HDV over FireWire and work in native HDV which is an MPEG2 format. You can always transcode the HDV clips into DNxHD within the system and take advantage of the FireWire digital capture.

Depends on how much rendering and back and forth you aniticipate over Firewire. DV is compressed and every time you render anything, the file gets decompressed then recompressed. You can come in FireWire and once decompressed, capture as 1:1. Do all your work as 1:1 till the final output back to DV over FireWire or encode to MPEG2 for DVD, etc. That would be a higher quality than capturing 1:1 from analog component.

If the question is work in DV25 over FireWire versus analog 1:1, it would be pretty close and most likely not noticeable. It depends as the previous poster noted, how good the A to D converter is as well as control over the color and levels when capturing.

Any FileMaker Pro database should be able to map a tab delimited file export from the Avid.

  • I don’t know where you are getting your information, but Xpress Pro is designed to have only 4 tracks of multicam playback.

Have you tried just the bin containing the sequence in a project you make? If it doesn’t open, there is probably some effects in there that are new and are not compatible with older systems. You can try removing some of the more fancy effects (or plug-ins) and see if you can get it in. You could always try removing all effects just to see if this approach with work before trying to remove selected effects without knowing which one(s)are causing this.

The other way of course is to upgrade your Xpress Pro…

Why don’t you just try opening the bin with the seqeunce and rebatch capture the media in your system?
