H.264 is a pretty tough codec to start with, and the longer the clip, the more you will notice. If you want to create DNxHD to make it much smoother, don’t do an import. Do a transcode from the AMA linked clips. It will be at least 2x faster than an import.

I use AAF with Edit Protocol to reference camera originals (linked via AMA) in Resolve with no real issues. Do you get the same issues if you were to transcode to DNxHD on a small test to see if that works?

I’m sure it’s assumed, but all external graphics files, and camera/audio originals are also backed up. You seem to have the other assets all taken care of. When it comes to backup and archive it becomes a decision of short term, mid-term and long term storage. I don’t really trust long term storage to local drives. I assume those are my short term solution (3 years max with some TLC every 6 months) and those are double copies in two different locations. For longer than that, I make an LTO backup. For a mix of long term is Amazon’s Glacier. Their redundancy and maintenance is awesome so there is no maintenance on my end. There are several GUI’s out there for accessing the archive such as:

For example, a feature I did all mastered as DNxHD 175, and all audio deliverables, project, trailers, is under 150GB. For that price, it is $0.15/month. It is more expensive to retrieve (like 10x factor), but still quite cheap when pulling from the Glacier archive is really because the drive and the LTO are destroyed.

A little soon for a book to be available. I would look to one of the several v6/6.5 books out there and pick up the differences with the v7 What’s New Guide.

Do the issues require being in front of the system? Can it be done via phone a join.me screensharing type situation? Is this a freebie request or are you looking for more of a consultant to help?

Have you tried the MXF AMA Plug-in? I used to get some Canon files in that way by linking directly to the MXF files themselves.

Is the folder structure correct at the root level of the hard drive?

If on v6.5 or later, ProRes is an internal codec, so you can stay ProRes 444. Create an RGB 709 project and use AMA to conform final project.
