Once you get to “other” codecs when exporting out of Media Composer, you are at the mercy of the QuickTime engine being controlled by Apple QuickTime. Do you have QuickTime Pro on that system? Perhaps that will give you more control over the encoding parameters.

For external encoding, you would need to transcode to either DNxHD or ProRes and export QT references out and then use a third party application to encode. You will have to decide overall of that is faster and better while meeting required specifications.

when I have made DVD’s I have always encoded from the HD master file and let the encoder make the SD conversion with great results. I would then take the resulting MPEG file and author with it. I did not bother making the SD file in the NLE beforehand.

The number is the type of compression being applied compared to “uncompressed” where :1 is uncompressed. I would not go below 3:1 and then use that for DVD encoding.

The discussion is more on Apple approve/sanctioned ProRes on Windows system with the ability to use the term “Apple ProRes” versus Mirazon ProRes. I have this plug-in and seems to work fine in most apps, but available to Resolve. Basically any application that exposes the QuickTime export engine. But the file will say Mirazon Pro Res when looking at attributes, and not Apple ProRes as that is a licensed trademark, and whatever other symbol they can throw at it.

I totally agree but despite that, ProRes is used far more often as a deliverable, arhive, etc. than DNxHD.

You are correct, that is the unique difference in this story. Similar to DNxHD, if not licensed from Avid, it really can’t be called DNxHD but the less enticing SMPTE name of VC-3.

  • Did you try “relinking to selected” where you have the new clips and the sequence highlighted?

Product price discussion aside, MTI’s dailies system, Cortex has been making ProRes for a while as a desktop product.

Interesting… I will do some tests on my end to see what the issue might be.

Yes, open first in 23.976, then open that bin in a 29.97p or 29.97i as needed for your conversion.

I am not 100% sure, but I don’t believe that feature was ever added. Perhaps others know better as I am rarely, if ever in an interlace project so am more than willing to be wrong. 🙂

The only thing I remember is the ability to do field-stepping which is available as a button control and can be mapped to the keyboard.
