    You could try the following:

Subsequence out just the music elements to a new bin
This will now show sequence TC for START END and DURATION
Select all sequences and do a get bin info which should total up the duration.

Or, in the future, use the AMA plug-in and AAF reporting app I developed just for this issue/workflow and can be seen here with a demo video:

    https://www.mus-id.com

You do have to bring the songs in via the plug-in to start in order for the reporting app to know which elements are songs.

  • You will want to make sure in Resolve when making DNxHD that you set REEL to be the filename. I have seen far too many productions just drop files in and transcode leaving REEL blank which will F up the whole process. You can verify in MC what was done by displaying “Tape” in the bin and ensuring that the value there is either the shorted 8 character (IF Resolve is set to use embedded) or the entire filename (If Resolve is set to use “clip Name).

If that is correctly done, you can change the Name column to whatever you want as it has no bearing on conform as Bill mentioned; it will either use Tape, Source File, and timecode START-END for the conform.

The difference between Tape and Source File is that all third party systems can only create metadata in Tape and only Media Composer uses Source File when importing or AMA linking. The two are interchangeable in workflows though.

For the most part you should be able to switch to 1080p and be good. There used to be a bug that starting in one format, then switching would prevent ALE files from importing. That may have been fixed, or ALE importing is not a need for you. If it is, just create a new project at the correct rate and resolution.

I am by no means an audio export, but have you looked at Normalization, and perhaps more specifically Peak Normalization:

  • I have subtitled entire features before using SubCap- as Pat says, not the most ideal, but it can work. I add a subcap effect to the top layer of the V tracks. Then, with waveforms active on my dialog track, I add edits at the beginning and end of active dialog areas. From there, I use the delete effect button and remove all the in between stuff. Once done, I go into effect mode and enter dialog. I wish the effect would let you loop play while typing, and some other things like that. Sometimes working off the master list works better.

I then export out a DS Caption list with timings, and had a friend create a retimer XSLT file to retime all the captions so I have 23.976, 30 (with pulldown),25fps, etc. I then have another XSLT that makes it into a TAB file and I have a single spreadsheet with all timing for distribution with dialog. I then added character name myself. On on film, I had it translated and the spreadsheet gets that language lined up as a column.

If they all have same time of day timecode and it is correct, then this is fairly straightforward. Also, note that a group clip is a single clip where ALL clips have a common overal to each other. A multigroup clip is a clip that contains multiple group clips where each group has a common span, but group to group does not. The groups are ordered in ascending TOD order.

So are you really wanting a group or a multigroup?

If all the clips have common timecode and you need to see them as a single group, then select all, and do a clip>group” START timecode (or aux depending on where that common timecode is stored).

Load into source monitor, edit entire clip over to sequence, and go on from there as per multicam user guide.

  • I don’t know about accidentally as the import, or AMA link reads the timecode and gender from the file. If you need to change it, you can use “modify”. May not work on AMA linked clips till you transcode.

  • There are three ways to make a subclip or sub-sequence based on IN-OUT and active tracks:

    1. Drag clip/sequence icon from above monitors to a bin
    2. There is a dedicated “make subclip”button from the tools palette that can be mapped or used directly
    3. Option/Alt click in the middle of the source/record viewers and drag to bin (the one I prefer, nice big targets)

    Michael

  • Instead of copy/pasting in new timeline, just try subclipping the IN-OUT and and selected track to the bin. It will remain a sequence and should maintain original sequence position TC/EC.
