No one here will ever tell you to delete original masters. However producing a tape is a good way to match the formats.

Have you tried using Mpeg Streamclip to convert the files.
I just tested it and it works great.

Craig makes a good point here and it is much safer to copy the media back in the office.

But I never go on location without my MBP 17″ 2.4 Intel. I don’t always need it however it is a great tool to take with you for coping media, reviewing footage away from camera, and even editing. I am convinced that the Mac Book Pro computers are a solid solution when working with the Sony EX CAMERAS.

    Tim,
Can you delete clips so you don’t have to format? I thought the camera I rented from you had a firmware version of V1.13_????, I know it was different from my cameras.

Since you didn’t like my medication advice you probably won’t like this either, I’m going to guess at the repair cost for the LCD and say up to $1500. I only know 1 person who has had major repairs and he knew a Sony repair shop owner so it wasn’t at full retail. But I believe he spent nearly $2000 putting it back together.

I’m guessing $800 for the LCD and another $350-$400 for Sony.

I believe you have the latest version. Time to open the manual and find out the steps it takes, then report back here so everyone can learn from your mistake.

I believe you get one more try at this. The latest version of Sony’s Clip Browser is said to take orphan files like yours and place them back into a brand new shinny BPAV folder. I haven’t had the need to learn this but others here have.

June 23, 2009 at 3:22 am in reply to: 1/3″ vs 1/2″ chips

“Anyone here want to defend the 1/3″ chips on the JVC vs the 1/2″ on the Sony cams? ”

    No.
I believe when looking for a camera it is best to consider the front end before the recording end of any camera. The EX1 has an amazing Exmor CMOS 1/2 sensors and if you combined the Convergent Design Nano Flash with it you will have a cameras package that reviles the XD Cam HD (700) units that cost more than 4 times what you would spend on the EX and Nano. Plus the workflow is the same as the JVC as the Nano can be set to create Quicktime files or MXF files so no added re-wrap time is required.

    No JVC for me thanks.

“I am very worried and don’t know what to do.”

OK go get the Advil, no go to the medicine cabinet and get something stronger, or to the liquor cabinet and pour yourself a stiff one or two, Then send in your camera and when you get the bill take it like a man. If you are out in the rain then you have to face the facts and deal with this issue. Learn from it.

My father always said “if you take care of your equipment then it will take care of you”, you are only as good as your equipment.

    Good Luck
