I have made a big mistake and I am wondering if there is any way to recover. I have separated files from their original BPAV folder so that I am left with a numbered folder[ for the record it is 204_0252_03] that contains a MP4 file and four other files; an SMI, a PPN, XML, BIM. I can look at the MP4 file with VLC but FCP won’t import it the way it is; I understand it has to “unwrap” the MP4 to a mov”.

Have I crossed the Rubicon? Or is there anyway to backtrack now that I can not find the the original BPAV folder?

I have since learned the right process for bring footage from SS cards to FCP, but I need to deal with this unfortunate situation.

    Hoping for good news,

    Thanks

I believe you get one more try at this. The latest version of Sony’s Clip Browser is said to take orphan files like yours and place them back into a brand new shinny BPAV folder. I haven’t had the need to learn this but others here have.

Thanks very much for this hope. I have version 2 of Clip Browser. Can you advise me what version I need?

I believe you have the latest version. Time to open the manual and find out the steps it takes, then report back here so everyone can learn from your mistake.

    Good Luck

    ClipBrowser 2.5
Use File Import to import the orphaned MP4.

As Craig says, create a new folder and import the MP4s.
While you import the MP4, Clip Browser creates a new BPAV inside that folder.
When finish you just need to open the SONY Transfer tool and “Add” that folder.
The clips will be ready to import.
