Oh and what were they thinking with that ridiculous looking viewfinder on the back of the camera. It has the same hand grip with zoom control as the EX3 so there must be a zoom lens on the way.

I wonder why the F didn’t get the 50Mbps 4:2:2 codec, or will it when it finally ships. The SR digital file system will be an interesting new development. However it won’t be long before someone offers up a completely uncompressed digital recorder at an affordable price to use with these new indie cameras.

Do you mean 1080 60i???
I would hope all these cameras have the same timecode. If not you will need to multiclip edit and find a sync point somehow. The line cut is in most cases just a reference.

We all know the SxS cards are more than capable of handling the slightly higher bite rate.
We also know JVC and Canon both use this same encoder and Canon also offers the 50Mbps codec.
It is amazing to me that Convergent Design is able to control this encoder with a simple firmware upgrade that increased their maximum bite rate on the Nano from 220Mbps to 280Mbps by the end users in just minutes.
Ian (Sony rep) says it can’t be done. Maybe Ian can elaborate to the OP what (if anything) is missing and/or why firmware can’t be used to offer this feature.
I’d say it is simple marketing, and that answer would work for me because I understand higher quality comes at a price.

Yes a firmware upgrade is all that is needed to record (4:2:2) 50Mbps, but this would not be in the best interest of Sony. This is why I purchased the Nano Flash digital HD recorder that uses the same Sony encoder that is inside the EX series cameras and the XD Cam units and I record mainly @ 100Mbps using extremely affordable CF cards. Sony will roll out higher bit rates over time, however they could come out right now with what you are asking for with very little effort.

The Nano Flash can also remove the pulldown issue on the 355 to get you the 24fps digital files you want and allow you to wrap these files for immediate use in many EDL’s, (MXF or .mov)
Not sure if the AJA products have these features.

Great, however on my Mac I never liked how the 4 windows don’t all come back up together when I use the Expose feature.
