[mark Suszko] “you were never a real bidder for that job, if it even WAS a real job…”
Excellent point. Government contracts with external/independent laborers, which includes you are always done as a bidding procedure as mandated by law from the military right down to city hall. There must be an active attempt to get the best price for a given service and there is a magic number of bids they must have before they can effectively offer the contract to anyone. In your case, I

These are classic! I love to throw random range quotes at these guys just to get their response.
“Dear sir, I can create your video from start to finish with a total length not to exceed 15 minutes for $1,000. Other determining factors such as content, scripting, video capture and creative design will add to this base rate exponentially and could go as high as $13 million depending on the overall product and the speed at which it is to be accomplished. For a more accurate quote, we can arrange a meeting to discus the specifics that determine the overall cost and I can give you a highly detailed estimate.”.
If that that doesn’t drop them where they stand, then they would not be a good client anyway.

[mark Suszko] “Call me a prude.”
Okay. Prude! Just kidding.
[mark Suszko] “It has gotten to be very much more sexualized, in dress, in the moves and mannerisms, and the overall sentiments being put on display. it alternates between dizzying but wholesome athletic gymnastics and unwholesome pole dancing hootchy-koo.”
Um, where do you live again? Our state, dubbed “the Freakshow State” because of all of our nut job phychos and wingnut politicians has got to be the leader in all things distasteful, but our cheerleaders still wear the same old polyester-blens skirts, mildly form-fitting mid-drift tops and matching bloomers. Yes, the hips participate a LOT more than they did 15 years ago, but the girls don’t seem to be aware of how much more sexed-up their routines actually are. Surely someone’s mother would step in and tell them to stop dancing as if there were a pole next to them…because they’ll be no tips.
I see your point extremely clealry, but because I wear something that looks good on me, does that make me a target for abuse? The guts of this issue are that the paerents should be more vocal and participate in their children’s lives with a bit more vigor. If this is the world that our kids are inheriting, I think I’d rather go to Mars.

If this is the case, you need to get a better sheriff. This is in blatant violation of numerous

Big fat oops post…These seem to make the short-list more often than any others, so I’m going to have to take your advice and look at the DA tools again. Light Factory was one I bought years ago, but sold before I actually had time to use it because we started outsourcing a lot of our heavier compositing…but it did make incredible looking light flares and so on.
I suppose I anticipated a Boris user or two to drop a response or maybe some DigiEffects people to mention their favorites, but your message seems to echo the mass consensus.
Thanks for the input.

I got an email from a buddy of mine who asked if DA had sold their “desire” to create. I am a huge fan of Digital Anarchy and their flair for the unusual, but I have only used one of their tools and to be honest, it seemed a bit beyond my real-world needs. But then if they were aiming for me, they’d hav nmed the place Digital Suits & Stuff.
I guess that it’s time that I give them another look.

June 1, 2006 at 12:44 am in reply to: Loose change and new plugin offerings…What would you do?? Big fat oops post…Yeah, I actually did that first. I even searched the archives, but I realize that there are some folks who just like what they like at a given time because of recent work or just because they found new and exciting uses. I can see why it might drive you guys crazy though. I meant no disrespect. I just wanted to see what was on the minds of the masses.
We should have a forum for “the hot new thing” made by folks who find new uses for old tools or just find interesting trinkets along the way.
All my best…
