I think what I’m seeing is the difference between 29.97 and 59.94. As an original SD signal there has to be an up-conversion and this is an artifact of that. Sometimes it’s visible and sometimes it’s not. Some people call it a feature, some a defect….

That was what I was thinking, but is 720/59.94, by definition, progressive?
The input is definitely interlaced, but this may be the problem…

It hasn’t worked coming out of the component ports…I’ll try a frame synch and report back.

Yes, I understand the security is on the HDMI, but what about the three wire component output of the consumer units.
Do they have a way of securing that as well?

Have they also hard-coded this into component output of consumer DVD players?

As there is no restriction on the disk, I thought there would be no problem.
I’m trying to see if the up-convert I get is better than the software based system I usually use.
I have an old Pioneer industrial DVD player which I’ll try this with also.

I didn’t see which camera you have, but this was developed by a guy who did a lot of desert shooting.
It may adapt to an EX-3 if that’s what you have. I’ve used it with my EX-1 with good results.

I’m sure sony has a replacement lens for you, though.

    Good luck,

    Thanks-
I’ve done more tests and have determined that one should set tone at that threshold. Noise is not an issue, so the big thing I need to avoid is clipping. Thanks for the information.

I’ve offered it as an option to her.
If the direct ingest doesn’t work, the realtime up conversion will.
In effect the KiPro is a portable uprez card.
The only question is whether her equipment has component out.

    Thanks.
I finally got a chance to import the material into FCP and it looks like I just was too careful. I recorded the material down a few dB’s. The amazing thing is that there is plenty of bottom in the signal so that if it’s too low it can easily be boosted with no noise problems.
Knowing that they are what they are helps, though it would be nice if they were full input control pots.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best,

    Thanks Nanny AJA!!
I haven’t been able to check the levels because I’m crashing another edit to get it out the door.
That’ll be done soon so I’ll be able to check the actual levels as I bring it in to FCP (I was looking at Quicktime on my client’s computer when I noticed the low audio).
Some more accurate visual reference on the facer or as a super would be good though.
