I’m recording a long (1.5 hour) meeting on the AJA KiPro. I’m shooting with my betacam to ProRes 422.
My client is shooting at the same time with her miniDV camera to get reference PowerPoint slides, etc.

When she brings her video into FCP, she would like to use multiclip editing to bring in the Powerpoint slides and cutaways. Though time code isn’t matched, she will shoot continuously and will use the audio to match synch.

When she ingests her miniDV tape there are a couple of options.

-1394 Firewire; using compressor to convert it to ProRes
    – Play the tape into my KiPro after the fact and produce another ProRes 422 file.
    – Ingest it through her AJA Kona card at ProRes 422.
The last one is what I recommended, if at all possible. Unfortunately I don’t know which Kona card she has, but I know it’s not the Lhi.

Am I correct or is there another option?

    Thanks,
    Michael Moser

[Michael Moser] ” Play the tape into my KiPro after the fact and produce another ProRes 422 file. “

I’d choose this one. It’s realtime and it’s a known quantity. You already sated you don’t even know which Kona card the client has, so why wonder and worry.

I’ve offered it as an option to her.
If the direct ingest doesn’t work, the realtime up conversion will.
In effect the KiPro is a portable uprez card.
The only question is whether her equipment has component out.
