Is ATi or AMD absolutely fine by the way? I had a lot of problem with ATi in the past with other programs.
I know Resolve doesn’t support AMD processors. But what about graphics cards?
Any idea about the motherboard question, P9X79 Pro vs regular P9X79?

March 13, 2014 at 7:37 pm in reply to: Is it worth bothering with a Dell, or should I custom build a workstation for Resolve? Thanks Eric. I think I have pretty much given up going with Dell or any mass produced PC. I will build my own.
The media format I will be grading is 1080p 10-bit 422 ProRes and DNxHD. I’m not doing any 4K at the moment and don’t see me doing for the next year or two.
I wanted to build a workstation based on the recommended Asus P9X79 Pro. But the place where I get my PCs build does not stock it. Only the P9x79. Do you know if it absolutely a must be the Pro version? It seems to be basically the same board, only the P9X79 has 3x PCI Express 3.0 x16 and the P9X79 Pro has 4x PCI Express 3.0 x16.
Then I was thinking going with a single graphics card with one of these options: Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5, GeForce GT 640, 2GB DDR3, GeForce GT 630, 4GB DDR3.
i7-3820 4×6.60Ghz for CPU.
I use a Decklink SDI for monitoring.
Any opinions? Thanks.

I would also be interested in the answer to that question Jake. But somehow I doubt Blackmagic will reply. 🙁

Nobody has had such a problem before?

Well, I guess that makes my search for ways of using Resolve as a finishing tool way easier. With titles and all the new enhancements I guess we are basically there.
Can’t be here soon enough. Great work guys! -
[andrew sableton] “I wonder if Resolve will become a genuine NLE option at some point….I know of many filmmakers who are still dissatisfied with the alternatives to FCP7….”
They should take a look at Lightworks. As a NLE it’s a great option.

Maybe because he had problems with the new build like I did. I had to go back to 9.0.4 because the new build was crashing my system at start up and I couldn’t figure why. I lost my patience and went back to 9.0.4 since it worked fine and I missed no feature from the newer one. So I’m still at 9.0.4 at the moment and happy. Haven’t tried the very latest (9.1.3) yet though.

I will give this a try. Hopefully it will install without crashing my system like the previous update did and made me go back to 9.0.4.

March 28, 2013 at 10:40 am in reply to: Question about Rendering Degradation in Grading/Onlining Apple ProRes 422 FilesIn my opinion you should always avoid any recompression like the plague. The less the better. So I would try to master and finish it in Resolve, like Pepijn Klijs said. That way you would only have one recompression. To the final delivery format. That is if you would be working with the original files in Resolve through an EDL/AAF/XML import.

March 28, 2013 at 10:37 am in reply to: Question about Rendering Degradation in Grading/Onlining Apple ProRes 422 Files[Juan Salvo] “Resolve can easily add blanking to any desired aspect ratio, and also do repositions as needed. I’d recommend doing this in the color session, as Resolves scaling is far superior to that of FCP, plus you’d do your scaling, cropping and color in one codec cycle.”
Sure. But if he would still need to go back to FCP to master it he would still be recompressing to the final output.
I think a better suggestion would be to master and finish it from Resolve, like Pepijn Klijs said.
