5.5 was released a few months ago; a little less than a year since 5.0 was released.

Avid does not publicly release time tables of future releases, but I’d fathom a guess and say by the end of year if we’re lucky for 6.0. Don;t know about you, but I’m jazzed: We know it will be 64bit, which means a hefty amount of re-writing of code, which means a great opportunity to improve features.

To rehash this, I was listening to the Digital Production Buzz, and Promise was being interviewed and is in development (and close) to releasing a “SAN link”, which turns Thunderolt into a fibre connection, geared for SAN connectivity.

    Food for thought.

I can’t imagine an respectable Editor taking their issue of a product to the quality of a finished piece, not to mention a paid product placement has requirements: length on screen, visibility, etc.

    Again, my 2 cents.

Apple normally pays for the placement, so I can’t see a producer turning down basically free $$. Because our tiny sliver of the Apple economy, our issues with FCPX most likely wouldn’t taint the general populous’ opinion when seeing an Apple logo or computer, IMHO.

My Mac doesn’t have it either – not in any QT Encoder settings.

I also have MC 5.5.x on my computer.

Avid’s DNxHD whitepaper does list it:

    https://www.avid.com/static/resources/US/documents/DNxHD.pdf

I seem to recall hearing something about the spec being there, but some “flavors” Avid did not release in the codec packs – for whatever reason.

IS DNxHD36 showing up? DNx45 is simply the same compression ratio as DNx36, just with a higher frame rate.

Avid classifies the DNxHD codecs into “families”; DNx45 is part of the DNx36 family.

Apple has answered some sharing issues here…and how to move them…

    https://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/06/23/professional-video-editors-weigh-in-on-final-cut-pro-x/

    EXCERPT:

Complaint: You can’t share a project with other editors. In professional editing companies, editors routinely exchange projects. But in FCP X, “all of your project organization is now globally contained in the application rather than in your project file. You literally have to give that other editor your entire computer,” writes one blogger.

Answer: Not true. You can share your project, your files, or both.
If the other editors already have the raw video files, you can hand over the project file. The other editors can inspect the Project Library; on its Info panel, they can click “Modify Event References” to reconnect the project to their own copies of the media files.

If the other editors don’t have the raw files, the various commands in the File menu let you move the project file, the media files, or both to another computer on the network, to another hard drive or whatever.
