Another question; I had planned on using Cineform (i.e. 1 QT file, with both eyes ‘inside’) , but for working in AE, would be it best to work with separate eye QT files?

“Will a 2D virtual set give you the look you need?”
and
“Can you add some time for pre-vis or workflow testing to the schedule?”
There is no schedule set yet; which is why I’m jumping on this now to work out the kinks and approach. I don’t know if the 2D Virtual set will give me the look I want or need.
So are the graphics supposed to be 2D, or 3D? If 3D, then you’ll need to use an effect like Zaxwerks or juggle camera data between your 3D app of choice and AE.
Well, initially 2D. I have aspirations of incorporating 3D graphics into the shot 3D space, but initially, 2D graphics may work.
I suppose I’ll just have to shoot some 3D footage, put it in the comp and just try it out.
Have you come across any tutorials which may cover some of this -at least, the concept of placing 2D (or 3d) graphics within 3D shot footage?
Is there a better app to do this in?
Al always, thanks Walter.

MPEG Streamclip has always worked well, as has DVDxDV.
Avid prefers an Avid MXF file for best performance, however, both of the above applications will rip into a .mov, which Avid 5.0+ can read via AMA. In lieu of using AMA, you can rip the files with a DNxHD Codec (.mov), and perform a straight import into Media Composer.

You sure this is the right forum for your question?
There are no BM products that work with Media Composer, and only 1 AJA product that does: The IO Express.
You may want to ask in the AJA Kona Forum.

Avid has said “we are listening” and AJA has said “and we are looking forward to expanded collaboration with Avid in the near future”.
Nothing has been said about Kona or any other device; or, an exact timetable. Unfortunately, its being read into way too much (mostly on Twitter), with no basis for the “assumption” it will be Kona.
My response to Terry was of speculation on the ramifications – not to confirm or deny the rumors.

Terry, this almost scares me.
Spitball (*with no insider knowledge*):
If Avid & AJA support the Kona 3 / 3G, where does this leave the Nitris DX? What about the Mojo DX? My guess is the Mojo DX is retired, but is HW acceleration (DNxHD, AVC-I, etc) found in the Nitris DX worth the price tag of over $10K ?
Or, would Avid start with a Kona LHi – maintaining the gap between uber high end (Nitris DX) or the midlevel Kona LHi?
OR…
Is thunderbolt far enough along in development by AJA that the device would work with Avid? (I’m doubtful on this one)
I think the Nitris DX has many years of life left, I’d hate to see it sold short.

AJA, far and away, has the best tech support ever. Period. From a reseller perspective, we sell thousands of AJA products annually, and in addition to the product quality & warranty, the support is the #1 thing we push. It’s scary how good my experience has been with AJA support. Hundreds of phone calls over the years, not a bad one among the bunch. They call you back if you leave a message, and they understand WORKFLOW, not just troubleshooting if the device is defective or not (and where the blame lies).
Huge endorsement, Nick & AJA.

Downloadable AMA plugs are for MC 5.5+. Prior to that, all AMA ability came WITH the MC application.
AFAIK, XF was not supported until v5, perhaps even 5.5.
