Thanks David.
A professional associate of mine, who has been in the industry many more years than I, once told me “Michael, the Greats give back.”
So, I thought at least I would try and make my way to that goal; thus, I’ve been helping and sharing as much as humanly possible here on the ‘cow.
Good luck on the BluRay!

Thanks for the input, Dave!
All are valid concerns. I’m trying to stray away from the SbS, O/U or interlaced modes, as the quality loss would (and is) too great.
I’ve been unable to track down a – shall we say – prosumer MVC encoder; that features tends to be in high end apps, for obvious reasons. If any come to mind, I’m all ears.

A few things to check:
Do you get audio at the Finder/OS level? or no audio at all?
Are you using a I/O card like Blackmagic or AJA? If so, your audio may be routed out from the I/O card and not your Mac system audio. Check your Project settings.
Make sure your volume is up.
Make sure you are not muted.
Go into your system prefs, click sound, and click the output tab. make sure the device you want is selected and the the volume is up.
Make sure your speakers are on and connected to the output source.

January 26, 2011 at 3:34 pm in reply to: Avid Stereoscopic 3D Plug-Ins? Resize/Stabilize/etc?Look into Neo3d by Cineform. They have a workflow to work with Avid, including convergence and color adjustments with a stereo file….and it also retains full frame left eye / full frame right eye. It’s a fantastic product.
It’s not a plug-in, it’s a standalone app.
Your main problem: it uses Quicktime, which Avid 4.0 cannot use via the AMA QT plugin architecture in MC 5.
So, you would need to upgrade to Avid 5 AND buy Neo3D ($3000)

It’s OK to disagree 😉
The data rate is the result of more / less compression. HQ has less compression, thus, a major reason why the resulting file looks better.
Look at something like 14:1. Crappy looking, right? Lots of info is lost during compression to make the file size smaller. Now look at uncompressed. Pristine! Very little compression.
I highly recommend doing some tests to confirm visually, especially when blown up.

Yes, these file are accessible via Avid’s Quicktime AMA implementation.
Is it solid with 7D & 5D? No. As stated, it is very CPU intensive, and playback in Green/Green mode 100% of the time is NOT guaranteed.
An Avid AAF export cannot be used unless the sequcne is consolidated and transcoded to an Avid DNxHD format.
It’s the concept of pay now or pay later.
PAY NOW: Import the files into a DNxHD codec OR Transcode them with a 3rd party app into a DNxHD codec and do a FAST IMPORT into Avid
orPAY LATER: Edit from the get-go, but deal with possible playback issues and the eventual consolidate and transcode after the edit.
Also – where is the most stress in a project? Day one of editing, or the LAST day when you need to output – and the edit isn’t done?
I am a proponent of PAY NOW – get the pain over with. PLUS – as a safety, if the transcoded media you are editing with is a DNxHD flavor of 145 or above, you have a broadcast quality output available if you need to output.

Hey Thomas-
You may want to read up on Flash Video. Over the past few years, Flash Video (v9 and above) has supported H.264 – i.e. the ‘essence’ of the FLV video can actually be an h.264 encoded file.
Renaming the files (as mentioned above) is one way, or, simply using an up to date encoder (Adobe Media Encoder, Telestream Episode, for example) are other avenues to pursue.
