Thanks! When I read your post, I rolled my eyes at myself, not you. It needed the full render, which I guess isn’t the default of FCP. I did it and have no dropped frames now. Very much appreciated!!!

Just to follow up on this for anyone who’s interested… a rep for applecare said that he contacted the engineering group at apple. Their response was that they have been aware of the problem for some time and are trying to work on a solution.

I have the same problem and have talked with people at the apple store and through applecare.

It seems to be a universal problem with the high end video card apple just started using, the nvidian GeForce 8600M GT. I’m guessing you have in your computer also? I get the video tearing problem when using FCP and After Effects, so its not a problem isolated to FCP.

I’m not an expert on camcorders or the hvx200, but I’m pretty sure that with a firewire you can go straight from the HVX200 to your laptop through an external or internal hard drive, and capture in FCP, no P2 cards needed. The hard drive does not have to be firestore or specially formatted. The panasonic hvx200 technical expert told me this and I have subsequently read about other people doing so on the dvxuser forum.

Was this one of the questions you were trying to ask?
