And what will it render at when set as you suggest. Looming deadline so I need to choose wisely and avoid hours of re-renders, but will do what it takes to keep quality and avoid the dreaded out of memory.

Thanks Jerry, so I assume all my media sizes and sequence settings are correct? I have a vague recollection of FCP limitations on still graphic size and suspected the few I have 2500×1920 was a problem.
I’ll have no choice but to compile all edited clips into 2 new sequences for Dual Disc DVD, both will be approx 1:45:00 each. This is necessary in order to deliver for DVD and Broadcast 2 version, texted fully mixed and 4-ch unmixed textless.
I can’t afford to wait till output time to discover problems and suffer the dreaded Out of Memory error, so needed to check on my sequence settings, etc.
I hear what your saying about output segment, import and reassemble, this has not been my workflow so far and with all the versions I need to layout, audio channel assign, render and output will be time consuming beyond my deadline.
In the meantime I’ll keep my fingers crossed I don’t have a piece of corrupt media or a file to large for FCP.

Sometimes the easiest solution evades me. Excellent, I’ll give that a try.
Thanks

I was thinking of many reasons I’d want to set my own start TC in a sequence aside from what the clients delivery spec’s require.
It’s nice that there are work arounds but why? I’d like my editing suite/software to include what I need to do a professional job and not depend on AJA for ingest, another for other parts of a job, etc.
I’m sure FCP X has it’s place, like most tools I’ll use the best tool for the job.

Abandon the Pro’s may of been strong statement and like I said I need to do my research to get all the facts straight.
From what I’ve been told by other FCP users it sounds like many Pro’s are disappointed. Is it true you can not set your sequence TC? I’m an old dog and follow Network and Studio delivery spec’s and having a program start at 1:00:00:00 or whatever specified is a must. Is it true you can not ingest or output to tape? I know Tape is dying but it’s not dead yet. Is it true Apple has stopped or about to stop supporting FCP7? Is it true NASCAR is moving out their 40 FCP work stations and switching to AVID? Is it true ESPN is considering switching their 2000 FCP systems to AVID? I’ve heard a bunch of reasons why FCPX can’t be used in a professional environment.
What I did not say in my earlier post was even-though I find it hard to believe Apple is abandoning the Pro’s I also think Apple has a plan and most likely a whole bunch of really cool features and the software will mature to accommodate a Pro’s needs. I can not figure out why they would stop selling and supporting FCP 7 when it has so many features the Pro’s require.
When I have time to devote to research I’ll be sure to stop here and read all the reviews. Considering the low cost I’ll most likely purchase and use it for what it’s good for.

I’ve been MAC since to good ol days of MAC SE and of course big time when the SE30 came out cause it had that huge 30gig drive.
I started editing when it required a magnifying glass and a razor blade cutting 1″, then 3/4″ top load, then pulse tone on 2″, 1″ A/B Roll, Beta, Beta SP, D-2 Pre-Read, GVG 300 3 ME with E MEM’s, D-Vision, AVID, Smoke, and into FCP 1, 2, 3. In other words I’ve donemy fair share of investing in the future and I’ve seen the paradigm shift more than a few times. I had a shop in Santa Monica for several years and bailed out due to technology change and watching budgets plummet just before 911.
Despite all that I continue to find it hard to believe Apple will abandon the pro’s. To be honest I’ve been under a rock or should say on location and in my man cave editing room since April and won’t surface or have enough time to do proper research till Nov, just in time to miss out on the discounts from Adobe or AVID.
In the good ol days we use to say Grow or Die, I think I’m dying.

Thanks for the info, yep compressor kinda slow.
I’ve been hearing good things about Premier this past year, who would of ever thought the Pro’s would gravitate towards Premier.

OK, I’m listening now.
Are you saying that with X I can batch capture hundreds of GoPro Clips with in/out so as to import just the sections I need.
I’ve been very busy since before NAB and have not done my research to the degree necessary to know all the pro’s and cons of X.

NO FCPX for me till I have time to devote and it becomes useful for Pro work and I’m in the middle of 3 huge jobs.
I’m looking for a FCP7 solution.

I’m somewhat familiar with FCP and not aware of “System Preference Audio” in FCP or where to select Mic or Mic from a FW Camera. Please be more specific. Do you mean “user pref” or “Audio Pref”, I don’t find mic settings there?
