If Avid moves their architecture to Quicktime it will be the stupidest thing they’ve done in a long, long time. If they support the AJA products for I/O, though, it will be awesome. The only system that works with AJA now is the DS system, which is ironically the most expensive editing software Avid sells.
As far as importing, just make sure you have 601 selected and it will leave the color alone.

Step into the matte key effect. When you do you’ll see:
V3 (alpha – this layer will probably be locked)
V2 (fill – your graphic)
V1 (blank)The monitor defaults to V3 so all you see is the alpha. Switch your monitor to V2 so you can see your graphic, apply a Color Correction effect to V2 and adjust to taste, then step out of the effect. It will correct the graphic but leave the alpha untouched.

When you delete a bin, the media is not deleted. If you want to delete the media that’s in the bin, delete it first.
If you’ve deleted a bin without deleting the media, you can pull bin out of the trash can in your project windows to restore it then delete the media, or open your media tool and delete the media from there.

Good to know.
If you can find this deck you could run the firewire signal into your system for the video and audio and get a Keyspan adapter for the Mac for deck control (if you can’t control it via firewire). A quick online search shows they rent for about $200/day. May be cheaper to buy the Mojo if you need it for a few days.

Nope. The old Mojo with component cables is your cheapest options.
Unless you can find a Beta deck with firewire out (do they even exist?). Then you could capture via firewire, so you wouldn’t need a Mojo.

Go to your timeline settings, select the Edit tab, and turn off “Auto-Monitoring”. Now, when you patch tracks, it won’t change what video layer you’re monitoring.
