You can do this, but it’s a couple extra steps from 7.

1. Make an Event, import your footage.
2. Make a timeline, drop the stuff you want into it, do whatever it is you need to do in this timeline.
3. Make a smart collection and have it only show “Used”. Make your new keyword collection in the same event as your footage.
4. With your timeline open, click the “Used” smart collection, select everything and drag it to the new keyword.
5. Select everything you just put in your new keyword collection, right click, “Transcode Media”, choose to make Optimized or Proxy (or both).

Interesting thought. I use events as broad organizational bins (one per Camera/shoot day, Graphics, Audio, Sequences, etc…) then subcategorize using keywords within each event to sift and sort that media into more organized, logical groups.

For example, I always have an event called AUDIO with keywords for MUSIC, VO, SFX, FINAL MIX. I like that I can click the event to see every audio file in the project, or click a keyword to instantly filter to just music, VO, etc (which is why I want to assign a role to a keyword to it’s applied to every clip in that keyword). But you could replicate that organization in FCPX if there were folders at the library level, if clicking a folder would show you every clip in it (like an event). Then you could toss out events and not really lose anything.

I’m not seeing that problem here. I upgraded to 10.3 about a week after it was released, then 10.3.1 this morning, and my direct-to-Vimeo uploads have all had the correct titles (although Vimeo was giving us issues about a week ago where half the uploads failed, but I think that was a Vimeo-side issue and not FCPX).

I uploaded 6 or so videos today and they all went through fine.

What version of FCPX are you using?

If it’s 10.3, when you hit spacebar you might see a “roles” menu pop up on your screen. If you do, then hide the “Video Roles” and “Audio Roles” columns in your browser and see if the spacebar functions properly again (that is, plays the video).

Once you edit a clip into your sequence (project) the focus automatically goes back to the browser. There’s no option to change this, so the shortcut to go back to your timeline (by default) is Cmd+2. Do your edits. Then Cmd+1 takes you back to your browser.

NOTE: I’ve found that libraries that are updated from 10.2.3 to 10.3 will lose the keyboard shortcut Cmd+1 to go back to the browser. I recommend making new keyboard shortcut settings and new libraries when possible, if you’re upgrading from 10.2.3 to 10.3. Otherwise, expect there to be weird stuff going on with your keyboard shortcuts.
