Actually, you can just buy Premiere Pro for $799 and get Encore with it.
To the original poster–what are you needing that your current software isn’t giving you? Or are you just wanting to change software fro the sake of changing software?
If you need more advanced color correction, Color will give you that.
If you need advanced compositing and effects software, After Effects and the rest of the Adobe suite will give you that.
Otherwise, FCP is a very powerful suite of applications, but if you’ve never used a Mac before you might be frustrated for a while as you figure out the differences between Windows and OSX. But like others have mentioned, you can always dual boot into Windows to still run any Windows programs you own (probably including Avid Liquid).

It’s normal.
I believe drive filtering will filter out any non-Avid branded drives. It sounds like you’re running storage that wasn’t bought directly from Avid with their name on it, so just turn off drive filtering like you have and capture away.

Are your systems connected to the internet? Have any automatic updates run recently? Has anything at all on your system changed recently that could be attributed to the crashes?
Otherwise, try making new user settings first. See if that fixes things. If not, check the drivers for your graphics card and let us know what you’re running. If you decide to reinstall, it will only take about 10 minutes.
First, go to your Avid folder and back up the Avid Users, the Avid Projects, and the Avid Attic. Just copy them to your desktop. Uninstall Avid, pop in your disk or download the installer again, and reinstall. Restart the computer, and you’re done. It should keep your user settings and your projects, but back them up in case. Takes a few minutes–15 at most.
Good luck, and let us know what graphics card drivers you’re running and whether anything was installed/reinstalled/updated recently on your systems.

What version of Xpress are you running, What system are you running it on (PC or Mac), what OS, what version of the OS (XP Pro, Home, Tiger, Leopard, Service Pack 1, 2, etc…), what graphics card, what version of Quicktime, and all other system specs please!
Also, when did this start happening? What changed on your system recently. What have you installed/uninstalled recently, and what does the crash happen? What specifically are you doing when it crashes, and do you get an error message?
We’ll need a lot more information before we can start to figure out what’s wrong.

Consolidating an actual media clip simply copies it to the location you choose (in this case, an external), and creates a new master clip that is linked to either the original media or the copy. You decide which when you consolidate.
The fact that the new masterclip has New or Old associated with it doesn’t matter. You can choose whichever masterclip you want and Relink it to the media by pointing to the drive it’s on.
You say you’re on Unity with Interplay, right? I’m not familiar with the Unity system and how it handles media management, but you could import some throwaway clips and test it. Just capture/import some throwaway clips, consolidate the media to an external drive, delete it off your Unity, then consolidate it back to see if it relinks. Make a quick sequence too to see if it relinks to that. If it works, consolidate away.
If it doesn’t work…let us know. Maybe we can figure something else out.

There’s no HD Mojo. Hopefully Avid will announce some new, affordable HD hardware soon, but in the meantime, it’s Adrenaline for HD or SD downconvert with Mojo. Unless you have an LCD or Plasma you can hook up to your system and use the Full Screen Playback for your HDV footage. I’ve never tried this, but it might work.

You were looking at an SD codec–I’m willing to bet it was the Meridien codec, which does fail at any image size other than then standard NSTC or PAL broadcast size.
You would want to export with the DNxHD codec or Avid 1:1x. Read about DNxHD here:

If you scroll a little past half way down the page you’ll see the bits about 1:1x, then DNxHD.
If you don’t have much time, go with uncompressed. You’ll wait longer to import it into Avid and you’ll have a bigger file size, but it might be easier since you seem to be on a tight deadline.

Avid on a PC is identical to Avid on a Mac. The issue will be taking your uncompressed quicktime and getting it to the PC, because the file will likely be huge.
If you can compress your movie from FCP to a quicktime in one of Avid’s DNxHD codecs–Avid’s ProRes–the import will be faster on the Avid side and the file will be smaller. You can download the Avid codecs from the Avid site.
Otherwise, you’ll have to find a way to get the file to an external drive that the PC can read. If they have a Mac on an internal network you can just export to an external drive, copy it to their Mac, then transfer it to the PC. Otherwise they’ll need MacDrive or Paragon so the PC can read the Mac formatted harddrive. They probably won’t like you installing software on their edit systems though.
You could format an external as Fat32, which can read and written on Mac and PCs, but there’s a file size limit. It’s either 2GB or 4GB, so you’ll need to export your movie from FCP in chunks, then import them into Avid and lay them back to back in the timeline.

Otherwise, good luck! This shouldn’t be a problem at all once you figure out how you’ll get the Quicktime onto the PC.

PS. If you can write your final movie back to a P2 card you can probably use that to import it into the Avid. Is that a possibility?
