February 21, 2012 at 9:51 pm in reply to: Do I need to keyframe the master fade in the audio mixer? The master fader in FCP does not have a writable track to record keyframes on. You’ll have to do it on the individual track level. Or mix in another app (like soundtrack pro).

February 21, 2012 at 6:11 pm in reply to: 802.11ac – theoretically possible for wifi access to a SAN/NAS for video editing?ok, so we’ve established that serious editing is much better on a dedicated, wired connection.
For the sake of discussion, could you ACTUALLY do with the new wifi standard (even if it’s not advisable)?
I guess my thoughts are leaning toward things like iPad controllers for a rough cut or a quad core MacBookPro not actually plugged in to anything ….you know, more like playing with an idea while sitting on your couch at home….rather than in an edit suite at the office….

February 20, 2012 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro 7 project disappears from drive while I’m working on it…You can also set auto save to run a lot sooner….like every 5 mins. Sometimes slightly annoying when you try to hit play and it wants to save, but certainly MUCH better than losing 20 minutes of work….

February 19, 2012 at 5:10 pm in reply to: Simulate power flickering On and Off with Final Cut StudioI felt like it flickered a bit too fast, and too often….imho….
In my experience, power “flickers” are usually only like once or twice.
Might make it a bit more “real”.
And I agree with the need for some sort of sound effect. That would also lend itself to making the characters look around.

February 19, 2012 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Single Blade Tool Not Working In Final Cut Pro 7You can also hold down the option key while you use any tool. This enables you to select any clip/item that is otherwise linked without un-linking it. And it stays linked after you deselect.

However you end up reporting it, it is important to realize that any tax “write off” does not in and of itself give you “money back”. It simply lowers the base amount that the government will be charging you taxes on.
e.g. say you made $50k gross for the year. But you spent $10k to make that $50k. You only pay taxes on $40k. The $10k (expenses) that you spent is “written off”. (This is a very rough-and-dirty example, but hopefully it helps makes sense.)

I find this same thing happens when I try to ripple cut (shift+x) with multiple tracks. It’s not really something that (as far as I know) has a “fix” per se…
My workaround when this happens is to simply cut (command+x) the offending clips rather than using ripple cut. I then place the playhead in the gap and use control-g to close the gap, thus leaving everything properly in sync.
Yes, it’s an extra step or two, but it still beats having to use magnetic storylines…. 😉

Someone should put that on a t-shirt.

That would probably work, though I wouldn’t consider it anywhere close to ideal….
I find extremely unlikely that any professional audio mixer that you’re likely to encounter would only have RCA out and not 1/4 inch or xlr.
