Having beta tested for Sony, Yamaha, dSP and Fairlight I can assure you that the bigger the company, the less personal care they give. I most enjoyed my relationship with small nimble companies like dSP and Fairlight although I did manage to get inside Yamaha pro audio on the development of the O2R mixer. When it comes to Apple and Microsoft you might have a close relationship with someone on the inside but small cogs and big wheels means you are not their primary concern. I chose Apple when they made hardware and software that suited and dropped them when they didn’t. Same with Sony & Yamaha.
What happens in Hollywood and the broadcasters like BBC still makes its way into the consciousness of the film community down here at the bottom of Australia. Of course we will choose what works for us but the disproportional influence of what happens in Hollywood is felt everywhere. We should pay more attention to Bollywood given the sheer quantity of that market.

I deal with non 16:9 drone footage scaling on the edit page. I don’t see any difference doing it there or in the color page. In the edit page however, you can do one clip then copy it and the paste scale attributes to all the other drone shots. Very quick and efficient way to do multiple clips at once and perhaps quicker than copy appending node in the color page. If you want to do it in the color page perhaps group all the drone shots and do the scaling to the group. this might be potentially more limiting as you may wish to tweak the vertical scaling on some clips differently to the others which is easier to do on the edit page.
As far as the HD timeline is concerned fit to fill then scaling is just working with 4k to HD no matter where you do it.

Yes and it is very good. On the Color page where the tracking window is, you can select stabilization.

iZotope has a fantastic set of VST plugins that handle all sorts of audio denoise and restoration.
I also have Boris Continuum 11 which is a great set of tools for object removal, keying, titles etc etc. You can also buy just parts of the set as Continuum Units.
I also have Red Giant Universe but they are less useful for my applications but I bought the permanent license a few years ago. -

Win 10 is supported. Win 7 support for Resolve ended a few years ago so bugs that are 7 specific are unlikely to be addressed. Also older GPUs may not be supported either so the combination of old OS, old NVIDIA drivers and aging cards may not be reliable. Kudos to Apple for finding a way to fix the bug without backwards calamity. That probably took a bit more work than testing and fixing before release but I doubt there is any software devs these days that don’t fall into the same trap.

I mentioned this project to Tim a couple of years ago when I first started and he seemed keen for an article. The project got postponed a year and so I didn’t followed up but I will do a write up once I’ve progressed the post production stage a bit further.

I agree with Scott that we should choose the best tool for the job. That’s why I’ve never been able to use X as it’s not close to being a finishing tool for sound and grade for me. That’s why Resolve is critical to me and all those pages are making the tool much more useful as I move from three computers running standalone software to one running Resolve. But I finish and editing for me is part time and usually simple. That’s about to change on the doco I am producing. I will edit in Resolve simply because the huge advantage of not translating and losing work via xmls outweighs the differences between X and Resolve as edit tools.
The difference between X and Resolve as finishing tools is becoming even greater with V15. They are not comparable. The difference between X and Resolve as edit tools is much closer and for many the difference is small enough to consider given the huge advantage of a genuine single system that Resolve is so close to achieving for me. (I still prefer Fairlight standalone)
All that said, I would never tell an editor they must use Resolve in order to be compatible with me. They should and do use whatever they feel gives them the best result. I think the reason this is being discussed more here is this is the debate forum after all plus of all edit systems, X seems to have the slowest pace of development and that must be of some concern to users.
