Although someone from Blackmagic might have a look here from time to time, feature requests are probably best sent direct to them. Also the latest beta version of Resolve has included new titling options with the inclusion of a Fusion page so this may already be addressed. I’m still on 14.3 so I can’t check for you.
Also it might matter what sort of text document you source from if you want formatting to carry over. I use Boris CC for some titles and if pasting from an .rtf or docx file, some formatting can carry over.
So info on Resolve version and text file format would help to get answers.

Well at the moment BM are doing this for you for free. They are developing and improving Resolve at a very fast rate and updates are free. Grant Petty has often stated he doesn’t favor a subscription model, so that will not happen. The current Resolve 15 is in beta so don’t expect stability. That said all NLEs have crashes for various reasons. I don’t find release versions of Resolve to be particularly unstable, but I’m on a home built Win 10 PC so there may be issues with other hardware & OS versions.
So you have what you desire already. The software has quite astonishing development and improvement in both features, speed and reliability in my experience over the past four years. All for free.

I ditched Apple for a custom PC so I can have decent onboard GPU so I have no experience with eGPU extensions on iMacs. Without a decent GPU, I would not attempt editing 8k RAW.

Any 8k codec, RAW or otherwise on an imac will be a struggle. ProResRAW isn’t magical. It might be slightly more efficient than cDNG or r3d but it’s still a RAW image that needs debayering with 8k resolution. Do you have an outboard GPU connected via Thunderbolt?
I think your computer is underpowered for an 8K job. You might be better considering a proxy workflow.

My understanding is that it is a camera format only. I see no advantage in converting between RAW formats, especially as Resolve doesn’t read ProResRAW yet.

I always found it intriguing that after installing software, that OSX often needed repairing permissions. Try doing that before installing Motion. People bag Windows directories but I never understood how or why OSX seems to constantly corrupt permissions?

A smart NLE should be caching frames ahead and behind so direction change is smooth. The size of the ahead buffer might be bigger than behind but as soon as direction changed, the buffers should adjust. With modern hard drives the direction change should be seamless. Any stickyness due to drives would manifest itself regardless of direction if the software controlling the caching was not optimal. That’s why NLEs and DAWs have minimum RAM requirements.
If the buffers are optimised for SSDs or RAIDs then that is not smart software. Optimisation should be around the minimum spec.

I would also have loved to hear the opinions of the late Gerry Hambling (Midnight Express, Fame, Mississippi Burning, The Commitments). I met him over thirty years ago and had a great conversation about a scene in Mississippi Burning.
He refused to move from the moviola to the flat bed. I don’t know what he thought about linear tape and non linear NLEs. He got great results from using a tool that suited his style and muscle memory.

I see no reason why I frame codecs like ProRes would be any different going backwards. Mpeg or similar delta codecs sure.
