Many years ago at a Sydney SMPTE show, I saw Sony showing off a data storage system, strangely called a Petafile. It was a bank of HDCam machines with a robotic arm that was streaming data to four tape machines and a bank of tapes, so it was like a giant multi tape backup with control software. When I pointed out the problem with the name, they may never have shown it again under that name.
I haven’t seen anything for a digi beta deck and I presume that the data would need to be embedded in a digital video stream, like the original PCM audio recorders. Have you spoken to any techies at Sony?

That countdown is the UK, BBC style. You should check the delivery spec of your broadcaster to see if that is acceptable.
Using the text generator in FCP you can make a simple 10-2 countdown in minutes.
I am sure you found the BBC one from a search of this forum and out there in Google land is no doubt a heap more. Personally, I took a few extra minutes to make my own with a nice picture of my edit suite as a background. I cut one frame of tone as pips and then made a quicktime in a few codecs to use.

FCP copied the AVID methodology of parking on the frame the insert is starting on and playing from stationary as the edit is performed. This means there is no pre roll of FCP at the edit point. So there is no audio to crossfade in on and it clicks.
A much better methodology would be to preroll with the tape and so there is sound and picture pre rolling the edit insert. I always revert to my Fairlight to do audio inserts because you are punching in on synced machines which works. FCP does it in a way that audio inserts won’t work.

I wonder if the system is reading the fact that the drive ID is somehow different. Either way, if the file names are identical, then you should be able to reconnect everything.

No. Unless I know what codec you intend you edit with. If you are editing DV then and only then should you convert the DVD mpeg2 files to DV codec files which are lower.
All other PAL codecs are upper.

Are you sure the drive name is identical? It might have been better to use media manager to create a copy on the other drive. It is dangerous to have two drives with identical names.
Not sure why you can’t reconnect all the files. If the file names and drive names are indeed identical, then it shouldn’t need to reconnect at all.

FCP has a built in title crawl that isn’t very good and it also has Boris Title crawl built in which is much better. The manual will help you understand how to use these built in tools

Beware of copy >paste attributes if you have any other filters on that clip. It will copy all filters.
The idea of dragging the grade to a bin and then dropping onto multiple selected clips is safer. A little tip with that. If like me you might have two or three filters and you want to apply them in order, then rename them in the bin and make sure they sort in the order you want. Highlight all filters and then drag onto multiple clip selection.

In PAL (720 x 576) only DV is lower field. Convert the footage to the codec you are already editing with if this is to add to an existing sequence.
If you are starting a new sequence and this is the only footage then don’t chose DV unless that is all you can run on your machine. DV50 is better but I would go straight to uncompressed if you have a reasonable machine and decent drives. DVDs are mpeg2. Transcoding via any other codec will increase image loss. If you haven’t the drive space, then consider ProRes.

Have you tried making the .mov in animation codec? It has an alpha channel which should solve your problem.
