As the first Intel only OS, it is bound to cause issues.
I made the jump from 10.4.11 and a G5 to a whole new system with Snow Leopard and FCS3. I have an old Photoshop version hence my interest in compatibility. But apart from that, I really only run FCS3. I prefer to run all the other stuff on my office computer (a PC).
I am a great believer in having a dedicated machine for professional tasks with the minimum of ancillary software apart from the main app, but I know many people have just the one machine.

I am not aware that AVID supports ProRes which is an Apple codec. I know ProRes codecs for quicktime playback are available but AVID would likely prefer their HD codecs be used.

You sequence settings should be the same as your SD footage. If you then edit in the HD it should automatically scale.

If the final is to be a DVD then you are better off scaling the HD down to match the SD footage.

Broadcast safe filter isn’t always safe after render. This bug has been noted for many years.
There are various formulas to fix this but I use the RGB limiter after a 3 way CC.

Check the sample rate of the clip, the sequence you are copying from and the sequence you are pasting to. They all should be the same (and preferably 48khz)

I am guessing from the subject line that you are using a DV codec timeline.
DV is not a good codec for stills, title & graphics. Try uncompressed 10 bit or ProRes. Also 2000 pixel images will take a lot of time to render. SD is only 720 pixels wide so your stills have to be scaled back by FCP to a third of their resolution.

Correct audio settings are 48khz for all digital video. 44.1khz is for CD audio.
All audio should be converted to either wav or aif 48khz before it is imported into FCP. FCP will not play mp3s properly, even after a render.
Regards the slo mos, your problem is more likely that you shot at 24p not 60i. You get smoother slo mos when you shoot interlaced at a higher frame rate, not low rate progressive. Also you can only judge that sort of thing properly on an external interlaced monitor.

Avoid iDVD. Learning to use DVD Studio Pro takes a little while but it produces much better results.

You need to select 4 channel audio outputs in the settings of the sequence you are capturing into. Set to 4 audio outputs, otherwise you will monitor the default 2 channel.
