What is the final output/ destination? Broadcast? Web? DVD? BluRay?
Unless we know what it is going to end up as it is impossible to advise a sequence setting or workflow.

Is the camera audio 48khz or 32khz?

Using Color to grade will give you much better control over gamma curves so you have more scope to work black levels and details.
If you are using Color, you should make your keys into quicktime files before sending to Color.

I presume both the ProRes and Uncompressed are in the same pixel aspect. If you are seeing a difference, perhaps you are not maintaining 1920 x 1080 with both codecs.

Considering workflow advice for the Canon cameras is one of the most common threads here, this is not really off topic at all. Are you updating your Compressor droplet for the new firmware?

Do a search of this forum for 5D. The correct workflow and codec recommendations have been covered many times and the same question is repeated a few times a week.

At this stage you might try to stay with Snow Leopard. I don’t know if the automatic software updates are still working for FCP 6.
I don’t have a link either. Try visiting and searching the Apple site to see if you can find it.

There was no reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard. It is really only for FCS3 (ie FCP 7 onwards. The advice constantly offered here at the COW is to do a clean install of a new OS on a new drive, keeping the old as a backup. Installing an OS upgrade over an older OS is not recommended for FCS users.
FCP 6.0.1 was early version 6 and buggy. You might need to be on a later version. FCP 6.0.6 was the last and stable versions of FCP 6.
Once on the later version, FCP’s log and transfer should work, but I have no real experience with Log & Transfer & the EX 1 so the opinions of others who work with this format may help.

If you send a quicktime to a NAS so that you can access it to do encoding, that is fine. You are just using the NAS for data storage and that works fine.
The problems with NAS storage happen if you want to play HD files simultaneously on two different Final Cut setups.
Compressor has always been able to do background encoding if you first export a self contained quicktime of your timeline using current settings. Although FCS3 says it can do that from an FCP timeline, I don’t advise doing it that way.
