NAB as an event seems to be a deadline for a lot of new releases and updates. I’m sure that’s why Adobe just released Productions, because they had timed it for NAB. Blackmagic should, by all previous history, have launched resolve 17b1 by today and maybe something about their camera range. The fact they went early with the ATEM Pro suggests the focus changed with the cancellation of NAB and they have held back and pushed things that are more strategically important at the moment.
Indeed a point release of Resolve was dropped yesterday 16.2.1 so my guess is they put a few improvements from the impending 17beta back into 16 and are going slower with the next release. Not a bad thing.
I see no significance in whether Apple offer any X updates right now. I think we have become so used to the big NAB drops that we are left wondering why not much has happened this week. It’s a bit like Christmas has been canceled. It must be frustrating for X users but Apple must be much more concerned about getting their new iPhone made and distributed.

Rather than Google, check the manual where the difference between delete and ripple delete is explained. All NLEs have the ability to just delete or ripple delete. There’s lots of important basic info in the manual if you are new to editing. Otherwise if you are experienced on another edit system, Resolve can also map the keyboard to match the shortcut keys you are used to.

Basic test generators have limited functionality. Text+ uses Fusion and has a lot more functionality. Or you can build your own text generators in Fusion

Thanks Oliver. I’m wonder if the Ambisonics plugins available can work withing the Fairlight bussing structure. Interesting he sites the layer stacking for VO. It’s a feature I have crowed about for decades but fellow video editors didn’t seem to get it. Non destructive stacking of layering with voicing of top layer is killer.
EDIT* I’ve been looking at the FaceBook free VR audio plugins and looking at some articles. If a DAW can handle plugins and has a 4 channel, 5.1 or 7.1 bussing structure then these plugins should work. I see examples with ProTools, Nuendo and Reaper. I’d love to hear if anyone has attempted to use these plugins with Fairlight, either the old standalone or the Resolve version.

I’m glad I’m at the end rather than the beginning of a career. However, if I was starting out then the new is normal so I would just accept it and find a way to work within it. If I didn’t like it I would do something else.
The industry is changing. Always things change. I focus on the positives. Cheap but amazing cameras, computers and software. Doing things that were once really difficult with relative ease and available to all.
I see life challenges outside of the industry. Overpopulation, disregard and damage to ecosystems, disconnection from nature, our food, water and society. Yep. Enough to worry about. Most importantly I want my life to have fun in abundance without destroying the joint.

All that creativity and still the video was shot portrait. I think we should remain in isolation until the general public learn to turn their phones to landscape before taking video. Maybe what the world needs is an app that won’t let you take a video if the phone is held wrong?
Or maybe I’m being a grumpy isolated old fart.

Blackmagic have drive speed test software (free). You can use it to test all your drives.

Check those preferences. GPU optimising is most important. Also important is the hard drive you use to play back 4k media. Check that it isn’t a bottle neck for performance. Also codecs like H264/ H265 can be an issue for the CPU.
