They are listening at BM. What it also says is that the divide between production and streaming is closing. In my case the friend usually does post sound and score composition. All his contacts are in film & TV production so he’s going to come across quite a few BMP4K cameras and probably no BM studio cameras now the time has come to beg/borrow. Even in my remote area getting 4 BMP4k cameras is easy.

Also important is that is made me think about the possibility of doing live stream projects when I would otherwise never had considered it. With such a simple entry price for the ATEM mini & Pro, I have all the rest of the gear to become a micro broadcaster.

Only a couple of days ago a friend asked if he could borrow my BMPC4K to web stream and was after an ATEM mini so he could do in house concerts as a now totally impoverished musician. And now this update turns up. So I downloaded the camera software and will update it for him.

Grant’s enthusiasm and skill come from years working as an operator in broadcast facilities. He freakin loves it and it shows. I’m glad others see it. As a fellow Aussie I know broadcast in this country was the great training ground with versatility and quick learning of complex systems the norm.

I remember a night when I was telecine op at Channel 10 Sydney. The on air controller turned up drunk and slept through the whole shift. The tape guy programmed the 2″ video cart for all the commercials and fell asleep and both the tech guys including the guy at the transmitter were also sound asleep. I ran the whole station by myself for five hours before anyone wandered in and asked how it was going. I was 19. I see some of myself in Grant. Question everything, make it work better and most importantly more FUN.

Yes but the big deal with the Pro is the built in hardware streaming encoder and the way you can go direct to FB, YouTube etc. But you are right. They are much more and are being used in broadcast and other non web applications

I saw just that in a YouTube tutorial recently. Right click on the node and there is a node cache option and the application was to cache NR before doing other grades

Interesting that Grant has led with web streaming live switching in these times. My old Ursa Mini has been retired after it got damaged on a shoot. Insurance money is in the bank but I’m waiting to see what BM will be up to with the Ursa range.

Log & Transfer only works on codecs that were in action eight years ago and also needed camera manufacturers support. Eventually you will have to choose an alternative to FCP7 that handles modern codecs and can work with 4k footage if that’s what you are shooting. Luckily there are completely free alternatives like Resolve.

It’s entirely up to Apple to do what BMD have done. Make their SDK publicly available. If they want license fees then ProResRAW deserves to be ignored by other NLEs.

I assume Adobe have stumped up the fee as they see editors switching to Resolve. And seriously to be in beta two years after release of a codec shows this is low priority. The number of people wanting to use BRAW in FCPX would be so much higher than people wanting to use ProResRAW in any NLE. I’ve never seen ProResRAW on any production. Alternatively BRAW has been used on at least four recent productions I have post produced.
