Hi

Maybe if you right-click, with your mouse, on the text track and select: New Compound Clip – then the text will be editable as if it were a clip!

Basic test generators have limited functionality. Text+ uses Fusion and has a lot more functionality. Or you can build your own text generators in Fusion
