Good info. It all hinges around good internet and the ability to have camera originals uploaded. I don’t see why I would need to upload camera originals rather than hi res proxies. For me the internet is a stumbling block plus the need to have my grade machine online. Both are issues. Ironically there are people and digging machines in my front yard putting in fibre that I cannot access into my home.

But in the future I will be able to access this fibre. Second problem is I could run Resolve in Linux. That way I can have the machines I want and the internet security. Ultimately though the preference is to have my clients with me in the room. Remote synchronous is a much bigger fiddle than travel and human connection. I can see with fast turnaround episodic TV how it might work but with one off documentaries, it means setting up complex conditions at the client end as well as my end.

I know he is selling Frame.io but there is absolutely no reason why it is needed in the remote setup he mentions. Personally it makes no sense to me to upload camera originals. My next job is sitting on a drive next to me while the edit is happening interstate. I will get an AAF via email and bingo.

I work remote mostly anyway so a few observations. Yes it’s nice to be able to live in a rural town which fortunately has OK internet. Yes it’s nice to be able to just get up and do work without commuting or renting office space. Also nice to be able to dress daggy. However since the lockdown and travel restrictions, I miss the moment at the end of the job when clients arrive, we go through grade & mix efficiently tweaking with them in the room seeing and hearing everything properly and then go out for lunch and have a beer or wine.

Getting the final tweaks done remotely sucks. It takes much longer doing those tweaks and sending that off as a render to be checked on someone else’s uncalibrated home system or worse still a laptop screen and speakers. Takes much longer and that time is without the fun of being with clients who are also good friends. We do still need to spend time with other creatives face to face, whether it is at trade shows, group demos of software & hardware and in the edit room.

  • I’ve not had the same issue except for problems with DNx alpha which caused jaggies. If you are having that with png and other codecs, check that you have the right alpha settings on the clips. They may need to be changed from straight to premultiplied. Worth checking those settings.

Resolve is up to 16.2.1 . I suspect the issue may be based on your computer and OS compatibility. I’m on PC but I haven’t seen comments about loud sound for a while. There were problems for some on earlier versions of Resolve

Your computer is below minimum specifications. Also zero detail on the Resolve version you are running and the OS version. Also codecs used, settings etc etc. Impossible to speculate without any relevant information

I’m hovering about my camera upgrade. My UrsaMini 4.6 has given stalwart service and was damaged on a job with another cameraman so insurance has paid out the camera and I am poised to jump. So I was hoping this time would bring out cameras new or software enhanced so I can be sure I’m getting the right one. After using BRAW on my BMP4K I’m am more or less sold on the UMProG2 but I did want to see if there were any more BM cameras about to pop up.

I don’t mind if Resolve 17B1 is postponed so the beta process is less chaotic. But yes, software and hardware choices I need to make are in limbo. I’ve got till the end of financial year (30th June is Aus) to make the decision and pay for the camera & perhaps Fairlight panels.

Meanwhile it’s time to rebuild my computer for the next 4 years.

Tricky to see details in the keyframe editor and on such a long shot and seeing the whole screen. It is possible that there is a dynamic keyframe followed by a static one frame later. I didn’t see how you created the keyframe at the end. Try zooming in the scale on the keyframe editor to see if there is a rogue static keyframe. Your example is one of a dynamic and another dynamic but all the changes you made were on the last frame and were from a static. If that is not the case then I suggest you post a bug report on the Blackmagic forum and send them a copy of your project (.drp) file

Can you post a screen shot please?

The behaviour is of a static keyframe on the last frame. Right click on that keyframe and change it from static to dynamic if that is the case. Then the changes will ramp from beginning to end.

You can have a blur in each serial node. So add another serial node and do second blur in another power window. I find it easier to add another serial node for different grading elements. You seem to be trying to do too much in one node. There are some excellent free tutorials on YouTube that show how to use the node structure.
