March 23, 2017 at 2:55 am in reply to: Technique for linking mask generation with live text?I’d like to create masks that link to each character. If the mask generation can be automated, it will help greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to modify templates.

Hi Kevin,
It’s not often that I need to burn disc media, but I’m curious if there have been any updates in CC 2015 to create DVDs?
Installing CS6 seems like an odd workaround. What is the logic in getting rid of the function in newer versions?
Thanks for your post!

April 21, 2015 at 8:53 pm in reply to: Use 3D null position to animate a stroke of a lineThe issue I’m trying to solve is that I’m looking to use two different styles of “strokes” in the same composition. Since Particular doesn’t allow you to specify the prefix of light emitter it limits the comp to just one style of particles it seems. The only solution I can think of is to use some other type of effect to get a different style. Or maybe I could use a duplicate comp with a linked AE camera to create another Particular style and drop that in as a precomp?
I’m also hoping to use Elementary to composite the effect with Element 3D using a depth pass. I haven’t used that feature with 3D Stroke but it appears to have setting for that.

March 16, 2014 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Animation: Bending, growing arrow – how to? (video added)I’m trying to loop arrows along a motion path as well. I’m some what new to After Effects though so here is as far as I’ve gotten :
– shape layer with dashes that have animated offset to get the tail of the arrow to conform to the bends of the path.
– shape layer for the head of the arrow that is keyframed to follow the motion path with a looping expression.
– duplicated the arrow head multiple times and offset those layers in time to get multiple arrow heads to loop

The issue I have is that the arrow heads won’t exactly time with the beginning of the dashes. Anyone have any suggestions?

March 15, 2014 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Element 3D mismatched scaling of custom mask layersThanks Matthew! I haven’t used Element much and didn’t know that option was there. I’m sure this will help the next time I have to use the plugin.

March 13, 2014 at 11:57 pm in reply to: Element 3D mismatched scaling of custom mask layersIt turns out I needed to boost the scale of the group with the text a bit. The two groups aren’t equal size by default in Element even though they are created using copies of the same mask. Maybe Element is automatically scaling custom mask objects based on the size of the masks in each layer? Sorry for the false alarm! Thanks for your quick response time as always.

March 4, 2014 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Element 3D texture jittering/vibrating during camera moveI just turnEd it up To 8 which helped, but there is still some distortion.
