March 3, 2014 at 4:51 am in reply to: After Effects Composite shadow for a Rigid Body simulation using InstanceI figured it out. I just needed to set one cineware layer in AE with both the floor and object to a shadow pass. Thanks again!

March 3, 2014 at 12:28 am in reply to: After Effects Composite shadow for a Rigid Body simulation using InstanceI saw a tutorial recommending that I use instances to single out shadows in AE.
Thanks for the advice for multi-pass output. I was able to bring a shadow layer into AE using multi-pass but the shadows aren’t displaying correctly in AE for some reason. Here are a couple of screen shots for my scene setup if it helps.
I know I can get the shadow back if I put the floor and bone on the same layer but then I won’t be able to composite the shadow separately.
It looks like the Global Illumination is rendering differently as well. I’m brand new to this workflow so I’m not sure what I could be missing. Thanks again!

February 21, 2014 at 10:28 pm in reply to: Grain effect in after effects or photoshop?I’ve animated a model in Element 3D using Newton 2 gravity so that the dice tumble into that relative position. Then I animated the rotation of the dice in Element and positioned a camera to get the exact framing. I used time remap to slow the animation down into a freeze frame and want the grain to build up slowly as the animation slows. The layer I’ll be applying the grain to is a rendered Quicktime file with an alpha channel.

February 10, 2014 at 11:15 pm in reply to: Copy path and fill information from illustrator to after effects?I see I need to do this for each individual group to get it to work. Thanks for the tip Kevin!
The only other question I have is if there is anyway to retain the opacity of each layer in after effects?
Thanks for your help. Illustrator is totally foreign to me.

Using the slider control did the trick, I wanted to apply “Animations Patterns” to the slider key frames and this works perfectly for that. Thanks Kevin!

Glad that turned out to be so simple!

I removed any groups from the TP settings except for one and I removed the group from the particle geometry. I’m not sure that I am generating a group, what steps do I need in order to do that?
Also, I’m not sure what would constitute extreme pyrocluster settings. The preview seems to look fine. Which settings should I look out for? Sorry it took so long to get back to this, thanks again for all of your help!
-
Thanks for all your help. I’m having an issue now with getting the pyrocluster to show and I can’t figure out why. I’ve got the PyroCluster volume tracer on an environment with the pyrocluster applied to Particle Geometry. I’ve dragged the main particle group from thinking particle settings into the Particle Geometry. I’ve watched a few tutorials on this and can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestions you definitely got me started in the right direction.
I like the idea of using the Spline Emitter with PyroCluster. Is there a way to tell it to start emitting a certain frame like the normal emitter?
Also it seems that no matter where I position the wind it doesn’t effect the particles. I have it set to a sphere shape under the Falloff tab. Is that the correct setting to have the wind emit out from a central point?
I’ve done a number of tutorials for particle emitters and I’m still not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Wow! I just looked into Octane and that looks very exciting. Im going to put another gtx 580 in my system will it be able to utilize that? Also what kind of speed increase have you seen in using it? My first render took 17 hours and I’m definitely not used to those kinds of render times. This looks like a real time saver.
