I was getting this with video in the primary. Only the way it occured for me is that I would set and in and then an out point on the primary clip. As soon as I hit “O” it would change the range to 1 frame.
The only way I could get it to stop it’s nonsense was to zoom in fairly close to the range. If I was zoomed out to fit the timeline (shift-z) then it always occurred. *Very* frustating.

I upgraded 3 of my Mac Pros to 5770s and 5880s when those were the only options available. One of the systems was a 2008. The other 2 were 2007s.
I sold all three when I consolidated my office and decided to purchased an iMac late last year. I have already started to notice sluggishness on the iMac on certain FCPX projects, so I figure in a year the current system will be ready for Craigslist.
Historically, I prefer upgrading parts vs short-term resale (mainly because that’s been my pattern). Ultimately it comes down to cost. If the resale value works out more in my favor to sell early and purchase new in a shorter time frame, then so be it.

If you want the cc to go in the middle of the chain then you could apply the noise reduction, then the cc. Then compound it and add the noise back in. Haven’t tried it but seems like that should work.

Exactly. I still use mine to color and it’s the only/best way to make sure interlacing is correct. Unless I spend 3k on a Flanders Scientific or similar priced monitor.
Thanks for the detailed notes on the Blackmagic vs. Matrox. I ended up with an Ultrastudio Express, but same issues with inability to downconvert inside the box. Good to know Matrox is another option.

You can dupe a project (timeline) to version it within FCPX. You can also dupe it to a backup drive without render files so it copies quite fast. Or you can use Digital Rebellion’s Pro Versioner to make archived backups of events and project (timeline) files.

I tend to agree with Schmidt. Unscientifically speaking, 90% of my video viewing these days is on a computer. And the comments section for the videos or content I’m watching can be part of that experience, depending on what I’m viewing.
The other 10% is watching streaming movies or shows on Netflix/Hulu/etc, HBO for it’s series (not ready to move to HBO Go quite yet as there’s no surround sound. I’d say the only time I watch traditional cable TV is when I’m home sick or just bored of the Internet. Otherwise, I find searching for content and watching short form pieces more interesting.

It’s true. I worked on a show that interviewed Ansel Adams’ son, Michael. When asked what Ansel might have thought about modern tools, he said that Ansel would have loved Photoshop. Michael said that he did a ton of “post-lighting” work in the dark room. He’d use his hands to block out areas of light when developing the print. The key to Ansel’s genius was that he knew how to shoot efficiently using the correct filters, film stock, ISO, exposure, etc so that he could give it the final look and make the image pop in the darkroom.
