Thanks Rafael, that all makes sense.

Thanks, that has made a difference. Didn’t realise Spotify uses up so much RAM!

I’ve got a dual core intel xeon, so you’re suggesting 12GB RAM for better performance?
Also I’ve adjusted my memory settings in after effects to read:
Memory settings are:
Installed RAM: 7gb
RAM reserved for other apps: 2 gb
RAM available for AE: 5 GBMP settings are:
Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously – ticked
Installed CPUS: 4
CPU’s reserved for other apps: 2
Ram allocation per background CPU: 0.75 GB
Actual CPU’s that will be used : 2Do you reckon this is it better?

Hey RoRK,
Memory settings are:
Installed RAM: 7gb
RAM reserved for other apps: 1.5 gb
RAM available for AE: 5.5 GBMP settings are:
Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously – ticked
Installed CPUS: 4
CPU’s reserved for other apps: 0
Ram allocation per background CPU: 0.75 GB
Actual CPU’s that will be used : 4It’s particularly slow when I use the camera in 3D space but over it seems quite sluggish. I always make sure that I don’t have other pro apps open, only AE and safari.
How much more RAM do I realistically need to get it moving faster? Does my graphics card have anything to do with it?
Thanks

I’m looking to be able to create a transparency in a solid colour matte or any image/video that doesn’t have an alpha channel already and then export it with that transparency. I’m new to AE so getting my head round it…

Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice. I conformed the QT to 25fps using cinema tools and then did a time stretch in Soundtrack pro without any pitch difference. You can hardly tell the difference.
Many thanks!

As far as I understand it, if I connect the HD CAM deck to my MAC and import the tapes through the capture tool in Avid MC 5 that should be fine right? Do I still need the Mojo? My copy of Avid didn’t come with the dongle…

I’ve heard that the export of the final sequence from Avid from original pro res files can actually leave the colours looking very dark so I think I’m going to just go back to basics and re-digitise the tapes as DNX into Avid. So you would recommend that if I don’t want to do a conform back to HD CAM at the end for the colour grade but actually just export the highest res HD timeline from Avid that I should digitise at DNX 185? and that’s the best codec to get the same res as the original HD CAM res?
