  • Any comments from Boris on my last 3 posts?

  • One other small comment. The ATI 4870 card I ordered with the Mac Pro is the top of the line “standard” card on the Apple website. This is what many video editors will order with there new high performance systems. This is not some “off the wall card” and if Boris is not supporting it, I feel it may loose some loyal customers. I enjoy the Boris family of products and I hope this is not the case. Please help me find a solution that will allow me to continue to use your products with my current standard Mac hardware.

  • Also, I forgot to mention that I get the “A component of your system has been detected which is not officially supported by Boris Red for open GL accelerated previews. The Open GL state will default to off, but may be re enabled from the preferences or preview menu. I get this along with the Status: Your systems video card model is not supported by Boris Red. Just attempting to give you all the info associated with my problem. Hope you can help me find a solution.

  • I called the number you gave me and got an automated message. I left a voice mail. Just out of curiosity, you mentioned that you thought the card should be supported. However, when I launch Boris Red a message comes up that says “STATUS: Your systems video card model is not supported by Boris Red.” I have the ATI 4870. The other things connected are a Kona LHi (which is a new card by AJA) and I also have a Caldigit HD One connected as well to a new 8 core Mac Pro. Is there anything else I should do besides run the 4.3.1 update after installing Red 4.0, because that is all I did. Everything is a clean install on a brand new machine. When it launches, it does say that it is indeed 4.3.1 If there is a process online that I can read, I can follow instructions pretty well. This is very frustrating, the old mac had no problems with the Boris software. I also posted this question over a month ago before ordering the new machine and Peter Mcauley said that it would be fine, but now that I have it installed it says that the card is not supported. I am just looking for some help, I can not be the only person this is happening to. Again, brand new machine, clean install.

How is the LHi performing? Have you used the HDMI in and out yet. If you are monitoring using HDMI, are there any “handshake” issues between the card and monitor. Also, did you get the new breakout box, if so, is it performing well? Just asking because sometimes new hardware has a few kinks to work out.

I am planning on picking a LHi up as soon as they hit B&H. Waiting for them because they will be configuring my entire system.

  • View by thread only shows the one post. If I do view by topic, I can see the others. If I use the URL you sent me it works in the view by topic only. I usually use view by thread and this is not working for me now. It is not working as usual. It’s probably me but do you have any ideas as to why it is when I click on the FCP forum link, all I see the the post asking me to write articles.

  • Sorry, I meant RED 4.3.2 By the way, I am not having problems now. However, I am going to update to a new macpro soon and had read a post where someone thought the 4870 was giving them problems with Red. If that were the case I might consider getting a different card in the new mac that I am about to order.

So I guess the answer to my question is that there are no known issues.

I do have one more question. In the new version of FCP and Red, is there better integration. Currently, I have to apply boris in FCP, park the cti over the area where I want a transition, then access options (i think) in the viewer window to launch boris to find a transition.

I guess, I am asking if there is a way to apply boris filters and/or transitions from within FCP without having to launch boris every time. I am just curious because that is the only way I know how to accomplish this with the older system I have now. I am hoping there might be some improvements with the new version or FCP and Red 4.3.2

  • I did not see in the article when the Kona LHi will be available. I am about a week or two away from upgrading my editing system and might wait for this product if it will be out soon. Did I miss the general idea of when this will be out?

Does this update fix the problem with the updated Radeon HD 4870 card and boris? I read some posts that reported a problem with the 4870, is this correct or was the problem the new mac pro itself?

Have you found any other problems with the new system? Are you using a 3rd party capture card and array?
