You are right….. Some things are that easy. In dutch it is called “refrein” (almost the same).
I’m left with only one unknown translation. What is the name of the part of a song in between two refrains? I hope you are not going to tell me you call it “couplet”, because that is exactly how it is called in Dutch 😉

January 17, 2006 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Strategies / Theories / Workflow on how to approach a video project — HELP!!Maybe you can try this one for the Music-matches-video problem.
I frequently use music with lyrics to support my video productions. I always keep 2 things in mind:
– Select the music prior to the shooting. You need to know what you can expect to shoot of course. Select the music at home. Listen to the song and try to make a shooting list of the tings that match the lyrics. Make the scenes long enough so you can adjust start and ending points.
– Never try to use the complete song. As you said also, you don’t want to use the same scenes over and over again. In general some parts of a song come back in the same song for a number of times. The scenes that matchs the same lyrics are…..usually the ones you already used. I normally use only 1 section of a song, containing 1 x ….. and 1 x ……. (I don’t have any clue how this is called in Englisch, but I mean that I use once the part of the song that changes for every part and once the part that is repeated more than once during the same song). Vegas is realy good in cutting out the middle part of the song, so it is no problem to use only 1/4 of the song. Extra benefit: a scene connected to a 4 minutes ong lasts way too long anyway.
This works fine for me, so it might work fine for you too.
Additionally to this, I can suggest to set a certain time limit on your projects. I do some work as volunteer for the local TV broadcast station. We broadcast on sunday afternoon a 1 to 2 hour programm, containing 2, 3 or 4 programms. They need to be delivered in time, to broadcast them on time. And, to be honest, if I take a project that I worked 2 weeks on, I still see room for improvement. If I work an additional week…..I still see room for improvement.

Depending on what you do with the book you might use this one:
Record a scene with you and the book on it. Draw a vertical line on the scene right in the middel of the position of the book to make it possible to let drop a book from above the upper scene edge (from a window on a higher floor), so the book starts falling out of sight of the camera. Run a few takes with you not on there and letting a book drop. When you disapear use a fade through whit effect (only a few frames long, just for the effect). Select the best take from the ones shot when dropping the book. Cut the start of this scene on the position where the book is about on the hight you held it on just before you disapeared (mind the frames that you loose due to the fade through white effect). You might need to reduce the velocity of the second scene. The book has already velocity on the moment you just drop it. According to the gravity rules it should start falling at a speed of 0. Using a velocity enveloppe this should be possible.
To make this all happen, one should select a good location. A location where it is easy to let drop a book from not too much above the camera border. If the level is too high, the velocity of the book is already that high, that it is not possible anymore to capture the fall on tape.
I used a simmilar technique to let people jump from location A to location B. If you want to see this “act”, you can see it on the web using this link:
https://www.jr-video.nl/images/stories/showcase/clips/mdgsprong.wmv
There you see a “zwarte piet” and our show host in a show where we welcome “Sinterklaas” (what you call Santa). We are first in the local sportdome and we need to “jump” to the harbour where Sinterklaas will arive. We need to go quickly, because we are allmost to late. This all pretending of course. Have fun!

Dave,
Are you having problems with DVD burning in Vegas too, or are you refering to problems in Studio 9.
Pinnacle studio is (in the Netherlands at least) famous for its strange behaviour in respect to synchronisation on DVD’s. I also was a Pin-fighter for 3 years. Since I’m using Vegas I am only concentrating on the video contents instead of “work around” the Pinnacle habbits. Sometimes it is even a bit boaring to use Vegas due to the lack of issues….

For an unknown reason I used the capture tool to try and print to tape. I guess it is because I used the capture tool first and saw that there was also a printing to tape option in it. It makes indeed more sense to use the Vegas-directly one. I will try this tonight and reply the result.

Hi Edward,
I assume that you mean if I can print using the capture/printing tool that comes with Vegas. That is just what I’m doing all of the time. It allways drops frames when I rpint a rendered-as AVI file. I use it from the capture option in the file drop down list. Should I run it as an exe file without Vegas being active?

Marcel

Sometimes things are that simple, that you don’t expect them to be that simple. This is a great example on that.
Thanks for the constructive and fast reply.
