December 20, 2005 at 7:21 am in reply to: PAL DV tape, can I capture without PAL deck?

I’ve managed to get capture PAL from my NTSC PD-150.

    How? A bit of a work-around.

    1. Easy settings – PAL DV
    2. Open log & capture window.
    3. Play DV Pal tape for a few seconds (L &C Screen says “no preview available)
    4. Stop tape.
    5. Clost L & C window (Apple-8)
    6. Remove FW cable from camera.
    7. Put FW cable back into camera.
    8. Open L & C window.
    9. L & C then should see the PAL signal.
    10. Capture as normal.

If the above doesn’t work, I try different variations of the above – opening and closing the L&C window, replacing the camera, etc – but after a few attempts I’m usually able to get PAL (and even PAL DVCAM) on my NTSC PD-150.

    I hope this helps.

I’ve been running my speakers of the headphone socket – or out of the camera for years, (G4 & G5) and I’ve never had a problem. It could be that you have a bad connection, or a faulty wire somewhere. You may want to sort that out rather than purchasing expensive equipment.

  • I output from QT or FCP as an MP4 with the ADSL/Medium setting using QT6.5

And as long as the client has QT 6.5 or higher (free download) it works perfectly.

I can’t speak for Nattress, but I’ve had amazing results with Magic Bullet.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it has a lot of ‘holes’ and texture.
It will need to be on a transparent background.

    Hi,

If you don’t want to upgrade to FCP 5 – Digital Heaven has a multi-cam software package that I believe is reasonably priced and works well.
