Well that’s what I get for skipping CS3! Thanks for the recomendation on the software. Someone else also recomended Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 as a cheap stop-gap solution until Adobe presents a solution but I’ll be sure to check out your solution as well… thanks again for the help.

Thank you for the suggestion! I believe that the Studio is a modern version of the card I am currently using. I am just curious though… would the Intensity Pro (I am not that familiar with the card) work for my situation or would it just be a waste of money? I realize that it only has an analog breakout cable but I hopefully don’t anticipate having to use my BetaSP deck for very much longer (and I could just crash record for now) and if I could save money by taking this route then I could add a little more power to my edit suite.

Thanks… that’s an idea I did not consider. I’ll still have the down time.. but a reliable backup if needed.

  • Well… today it seems to be working just fine… after searching the forums I see that I am not the only one that has suffered this odd little quirk… I just wish I knew what caused it and a reliable way to correct it.

  • I actually have a very simple setup… I route through a BetaSP deck (uvw1800) via component out (I don’t use the SDI at all) and I know the deck and monitor are fine becuase I can input from another source and the deck functions just fine and I can output to the monitor from the deck without problems as well.

I can provide all the specs for my equipment if you want, but I am not having any problems with any other piece of equipment at all… and I have experienced this exact same problem with my decklink card in the past, but re-seating it in the motherboard has always solved the problem before.

Well I was also asking for advice in rec.video.production and they’re telling me that I don’t even need a RAID for HDV footage and I would be insane to even use one. According to them…

The WD Caviar Black will do 6-7 streams of DVCProHD 50i and 23+ Streams of DV according to the AJA Kona discwacker. Even with HDV’s increased processor overhead your looking at at least 4 streams and more if you use an intermediate codec. As long as you don’t fill the drive up you’ll have plenty of bandwidth.

So now I’m not sure which direction to take…

Well I got a little nervous after reading your first post because my budget was tight and I had not allowed for a third part RAID controller so I asked the BM tech support team their opinion and they told me that they would rather use onboard RAID controllers. Of course I’m more apt to trust an everyday user…

One thing though… I always thought that onboard RAID controllers were more of a hybrid, utilizing an onboard chipset with hardware assist and had a relatively low cpu overhead (around 1-2%)

Well that motherboard actually has 2 onboard RAID controllers, an Intel ICH9R and a JMicroJMB362… are you saying that the onboard controllers are not up to the job or that a third party controller just works better?

I’ll take a look at that board. Thanks!

Well unfortunately BM has not updated their Hardware/Turnkey lists in quite a while so there isn’t much to go on there. Although I can comfortably edit on either a PC or MAC enviroment, I prefer PC due to certain other requirements within my company. I’ve also built several edit suites in the past and am aware that they can be a pain… but then again I’ve also worked on Turnkey systems that also have their fair share of problems. The main point of my post was to see if anyone else had possibly used any of the hardware I listed and ran into any problems. And I was hoping to get a little advice on an HDV suite since this is my first attempt at one. Thanks for the advice on the monitors.. I’ll definitely add a second one to the build.
