  • Quick question about CS4 and HDV

Posted by Matt Morrison on November 4, 2009 at 2:58 pm

I’m starting a project that will require me to edit footage from a Canon XL-H1s but I have people telling me not to use Premiere CS4 as it “recompresses ALL footage at HDV export, and it doesn’t do
it very well (serious image degradation is common in the final result). It also cannot reexport the same file without recompressing it, so laterexports must either begin with retained project and source files, or suffer further degradation.” If this is true, is there any sort of work around or am I going to be forced to purchase a second editing software package?

Mainconcept mpeg Pro HD 4 is your answer but unfortunately Smart rendering is not available under current Premiere Pro CS4 releases, because of a defect in its plug-in API. Future updates of Premiere Pro CS4 and MPEG Pro HD 4 will solve this.
It seems to work just fine under CS3

Well that’s what I get for skipping CS3! Thanks for the recomendation on the software. Someone else also recomended Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 as a cheap stop-gap solution until Adobe presents a solution but I’ll be sure to check out your solution as well… thanks again for the help.

Not a CS4/MPEG Pro HD user, but I’ve just seen the update you were wishing for is out now, so here’s a heads-up
