2. There are a lot of quirks on PC platform, which is a little harder to develop for, overall. Mostly premiere will have some issues in the way it plays back clips and handles overlays. Some features just need to be rendered into BMD preview files before they look ok. If you see a problem with playback, try to adjust the footage slightly so that it will render (like a point of brightness or some other tiny adjustment). Render it and see if it still plays back funky.
I’ve also had to pull clips from the timeline and drop them back in to get them to work. Another trick for me is to change the in and out points of a clip by a couple of frames to get things to render properly.
4. If your drivers are working, DON’T UPGRADE. The only reason to upgrade your driver is compatibility with a program you are using or new features you need for your work. Beyond that, upgrades are major danger.
I can second this! I had a rock solid system on the 7.3.1 drivers but after my upgrade to 7.5 I’ve had all sorts of small issues.

I don’t know because it happens on both of my edit suites and the only thing they have in common is the 7.5 drivers (and the driver upgrade did not help my problems by the way). It only seems to happen to me with audio files, either mono or stereo, and even then only part of the time. I worked all day today with the new drivers installed and it just happened for the first time about 30 minutes ago.

Well… I apologize, I was running the 7.4 drivers. I could have sworn i just updated the other day! Let me give the 7.5 drivers a try and if I’m still having problems I’ll re-post.
On a side note, this new Media Express app doesn’t seem to allow for resizing. I have a 1900×1200 monitor and it still cuts off at the bottom of the screen and there’s no way I can find to float and stretch it so that I can see the bottom of the display.

Never mind…. I am an idiot! Here I am checking every setting in Blackmagic and Premiere as well as all my wiring and I never even thought to look at the computer. It was still set to use the onboard sound card instead of theh BM card.

Never mind… it definitely won’t.

November 12, 2009 at 10:43 pm in reply to: Hardware for my new edit suite… anyone see any problems? Thanks for the recomendation. I really picked that particular case for it’s potentially quiet cooling properties as there are rare times when I have to cut audio in my edit suite. Looks aren’t really all that important to me as I can hide the case if I have to.

Looks like Blackmagic recomends 3ware so I think I’ll go with a

It’s been a while since I’ve built a system around an Asus board so I’ll look into somehting else. For the power supply, well I did have a nvidia quadro fx 4800 and a larger video array but budget got the better of me so I slimmed things down… looks like I forgot about the power suppy.
This is the case I went with:
