Well it’s a 3Ware RAID controller and they have a small diagnostic program that basically tells them everything going on with the card and the drives and I ran it just yesterday and they tell me that everything checks out and the controller is configured for maximum performance.
At this point I am starting to think about just reformatting the hard drive and starting over with a fresh install of everything.

Thermaltake 850W Power Supply… I was guessing this myself at one point but the RAID array diagnostics don’t show power supply problems… not that this necessarily means anything.
For what it’s worth… Thermaltake has a tool on their website that lets you estimate your power supply needs and their rough estimate for my system was 625W

Thanks, I’ll check into the firmware issue. I’ve run memtest and came up with no problems, but I haven’t checked out the power supply just yet… the thing that gets me is the system was working great in the beginning, but has slowly degraded.

The cache drive is a 150GB drive and it shows 118GB free… the RAID array is a 1.8TB and currently shows 1.7TB free.

Indexing is already off unfortunately…

Sorry, I forgot to add that to my post… they are indeed defragged. I’ve done all the usual checks and maintenance I can think of and now I’m pretty much out of ideas.

Well… I found the problem. One clip was causing problems in the entire timeline. I guess something funky happened to it during capture? It played just fine by itself and in the time line with the other clips, but as soon as I rendered it everything went crazy. I’m still not sure why it was causing problems, especially since the clips captured just before and after it work just fine, but at the moment I have a deadline to meet and just don’t care 🙂 Sorry to have bothered everyone.

Hi Brett,
Well… after a full reinstall I finally got my system to function, but I do still occasionally suffer from these same problems. I’ve not tried the 7.5.2 drivers yet, mainly because I can’t afford the downtime if I’m unable to get the system stabilized, but I’m hoping they will provide more dependability. Currently I only experience the problem on a very limited basis, but when the problem does pop up I usually have to dump that particular project and start again from scratch. Honestly I need to go through and update all my drivers/bios to see if I can completely resolve the issue, but I never seem to have a window of time to take the risk.
I was unaware of any compatibility issues with the i7 and X58 chipsets, are they specific to the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboards or do is the problem related specifically to the chipset? I googled the problem and noticed a few people that had performance issues with older chipset drivers, but once they upgraded to the latest versions their problems seemed to have been resolved.

That one is actually in the Squence settings… and unfortunately I’ve already tried it, but thanks! I still think there is some other setting in Premiere I am missing, but at this point I am ready to just give up and reinstall everything. This is what I get for updating 🙂
