I think you want to take a look at these Andrew Kramer’s really great tutorials (as usual), which is just about what you are trying to do:

hi,
you have to make sure that the resolution in your Comp panel is set to Full, otherwise AE renders only 1 pixel out of 2 if it is set to Half, 1 out of 3 if set to third, etc.MacPro 8Core 2.8Ghz (january2008) //

In the output settings of this app, you have 4 available options to render Alphaif you render with embedded alpha, the black background will then automatically be removed inside AE.

After a few nights googling, it appears that there is an issue between OS X Leopard 10.5.5 and Perian.
I just had to uninstall Perian (from the pref panel) for everything to go back to normal.
I since have had no flickering problem while transferring AVCHD from my camera.
If this can help anyone…

Hi,
I am having the very same problem as Matthew…
Did anyone figured out where it comes from ?
m -
[Jerry Hofmann] “DV Start/Stop, the subclips contain a frame of overlap”
true.
[Jerry Hofmann] “move the markers so they don’t overlap”
I think I will try something like that or batch export pre-sync sequences.
Anyway, I have lost some good time trying to avoid losing time !
-
I could do that, but I was expecting MM to keep the original Timecode data from the tape (for further synchronization issues)…
-
Thank you Jerry, I figured out there would be some trick like that.
I have not tested it yet but I bet it’s working as it should.Actually, I wanted to try that feature since my client has left me with a bunch of unlogged tapes, and doesn’t understand why I should need time to log and capture. (the same way some clients don’t understand why I should be paid to perform extra compressions/exportations since my computer is working, not me)
Anyway, it starts raining again now, my little daytime under the sun is over,
I have to go back to work !
I think that the backup abilities of MM are undeniable, but I will no longer try to use it for something else. Thanks everybody for your guesses.
cheers,

Well I’am certainly missing something, but what ?
1-I capture an entire tape.
2-I use the scene dectection, I end up with one master clip and 20 markers.
3-I select the markers and create subclips (cmd + U)
4-I remove the master clip from FCP
5-I select my 20 new subclips
6-In media manager :
–use existing
–delete unsused media selected
–existing file names selected
–duplicate selected clips deselected
7-click ok
FCP sends me a warning : “this operation is going to permanently modify files, etc.”
8-ok again->nothing, no change in files.
I have tried to previously duplicate my new clips into new master clips before media management, no change at all.

[Matthieu Foulet] “I have been using FCP until its 1.5 version and only used the Media Manager for its backup ability, the way Bob and David mentioned it.”
oups, my bad, I sure meant that I have been using FCP SINCE version 1.5, of course !
