So I’m relatively new to AE, but I know my way around it decently.

I’m trying to wrap my brain around the best way to create a video montage like scene where video “slides” fly through the scene, pause for a few, and then move on to another one.

My thought is to import each clip onto the timeline, turn them into 3d objects, translate/rotate them around in 3d space to get them into different positions and use a camera track to get to each one. The problem I see is, in all the tuts I’ve viewed and read, camera movements like this are a pain. I thought about using a NullObj parented to the camera and track that way, but even that seems like it might be a little difficult, since this camera would be doing tracks, tilts, 180 pans, and even loop-de-loops possibly, depending on the placement of the layers.. Any suggestions?
