    I need to thank every one of you for your interest in my request.

    I sure know that the best way in FCP to have a decent bin/file management is to actually log and capture after an acurate and time-saving viewing of my footage.

    I have been using FCP until its 1.5 version and only used the Media Manager for its backup ability, the way Bob and David mentioned it.

    But today was a sunny day, I was searching for a good way to spend time outside while FCP was doing a part of my job, so before going on logging every shoot of my 4 DV tapes, I figured out (regarding FCP manual) that it would be possible to capture everything, make a scene selection and then delete the unused media.

    Since even iMovie can do this, I expected FCP to perform such a thing so easily that I had no doubt it would help me to have some good time !

    WRONG !

    I am still stuck with the original interrogation, that is: why FCP doesn’t behave like it is supposed to (still regarding its manual) ?

    Anyway, a little bit disappointed, but tanned, I know have to spend a night to fix what FCP couldn’t fix earlier today…

    Unfortunately, creating new Master Clips will never make new files on my drive, that’s why I tried to use Media Manager.
    The only way I have found to achieve what I was trying to do is to create new subclips from my master clip, place them on the timeline, manually make them independant clips, and then use Media Manager to copy them in another location, renaming clips and deleting unused parts…

    September 29, 2008 at 3:44 pm in reply to: Expression VS. Keyframes

    Actually, I am working on a rather complex project, which includes hundreds of 3D layers, all moved by expressions to keep random motion, nested and collapsed comps, often duplicated, etc.
    I can’t pre-render comps since they are collapsed and I would lose some of my 3D objetcs, so I was wondering if keyframing a few of my expression would improve my workflow.
    I think will give a try.
    Thanks

    Thank you dan !
    And know, what if I wanted to use my text layer to animate more than 1 transformation property ?

    For exemple, is there a way to use some specific values of a text layer like these:

    x = 100;
    y = 100;
    transparency = 50;
    [x,y,transparency]

    in order to animate a second layer ?

    Well, they won’t work with Intel Macs, since Pete Warden doesn’t seem to have much time to develop any Universal Binary version of it…
    too bad…

    Ok,
    problem solved, in the french version of OS X we have two different maps for the keyboard.
    1st is France keyboard,
    2nd is France-Numeric Keyboard.

    os x switches from one to another when cmd+space is hit. Which happens a lot whith spotlight (great).

    And of course all shortcuts won’t work with the 2nd selection.
