Since only the bad clip had a different data rate and the rest was captured to the same harddrive and came out fine, I just re captured the clip and it plays fine now and with the same data rate as the others. Something weird just must have happened to the drive during that capture. Thanks though.

actually I won’t have to ask God, there appears to be a simple solution. it seems my camera guys without telling me taped the project in HDV, which my old deck can’t play, but my new deck can. question solved, better communication with camera guys needed.

thanks to al for your help, but it just seems like it was some crazy quirk. the tapes play fine in another deck, a newer one. But again, every tape I checked from other projects using the exact same type of tape works in the “older” deck. it was just “something”, who knows what. yet another question for God when I get to heaven I guess. I’m sure it’ll be high on his list when I get there, right after he answers “the meaning of life”. SO problem solved with another deck. thanks again for your assistance.

my cameras are at another location, so I’ll check that tomorrow. but, again, when I fast forward or rewind on final cut, it DOES show timecode so something appears to be there just by that, but what I don’t know. and then when I try to capture Now or batch capture through trickery it can’t find the time code that’s clearly there in fast forward. again, the weirdest thing I’ve come across in my 9 years working with this DV/ non linear programs.

I appreciate that. weird thing is, half the tapes were with one camera, the other of this project were with another, neither are capturing. yet, again, I’ve tried the same make of DV tape for all my other projects I’ve tested since this problem, and they capture fine. it’s just the tapes for that day, two different cameras, for this one project that won’t capture. weird.

okay, I just disconnected the firewire from my deck and NOW the audio plays on my timeline, which is nice, but why the heck wouldn’t it play audio while the deck was connected to my computer? That’s just plain strange.

Sweet. One question though about HDV in 12.5. I see it says you can ACQUIRE HDV on 12.5 which is cool, but can you EDIT it in native HDV (or is it converted into an SD or HD codec), and when completed can I then output to an HDV deck as native HDV?

Does this intel codec help us 11.5 media 100 producer software folks? if I download one of the free codecs, is it the same as the intel 11.6 upgrade before 12.1? If not, I should think that would be given out for free too, to stay on par with the other media 100 products. Just wondering.
