Is this folder(s) you are looking for on a shared server? Using 10.7.2/3 I am unable to search certain shared server formats (NAS, SMB). Try a program called easy find. Works like a champ for us.

Yup that is the exact issue we are having. Our content is sports highlights so its pretty fast motion.
For titles and such it’s fine, but our quality when we cut it down to 30mb is just not acceptable.
Would sorenson squeeze or something else like that help us any?

January 28, 2011 at 3:28 pm in reply to: FCP not flagging 16:9 capture as anamorphic (automatic 4:3 distort)We are having a similar issue and after reading through much outdated FCP material I come to the cow.
We have footage on Beta SP which we capture in FCP with an Apple Prores 422 (LT) setting with anamorphic checked. It captures fine and works great as 16×9 in that project since during the capture it is flagged anamorphic.
Our problem occurs when we use those previously captured anamorphic clips and import into a different project. Is there no way for FCP to import with the anamorphic tag set to on? Any easy way to interp. the footage (much like AE) in bulk or on multiple clips at a time?

We have seen the black edges all the time but previously only on the sides.
This footage was written from avid xpress to a beta and was scaled in avid to remove previous black edges.
On the tape it appears to not have the black edges just before import to fcp. This would make sense if the black were on the sides, but top and bottom is new to me. Any other thoughts?

Ok, so it’s an SMB volume as part of our whole SAN via ethernet. Formated CFIS. No file size limits that I know of. And I just went to capture and it’t no longer doing the -v thing on the smb server space nor the local drive. Not sure what that was about then.
Back to the other topic of selecting where to write to, I can’t achieve what I want after all. I have one server volume with many folders we want to archive specific footage in. Say all on drive X. FCP won’t allow me to set up multiple scratch locations (specific folders all on drive x) saying that there is already a scratch set to that drive. No way to set multiple scratch folders within the same drive? Also, any way to capture directly into the selected folder and not to a folder FCP makes and labels?
thanks

Good idea on the capture location with regards to not going insto system settings.
As for the file naming, it is just -v on all of them. (no numbers) We are writing to an SMB as part of IT’s main server. I would guess it may be FAT32, but even so, I don’t expect to write a clip over 4 GB. All of our capturing is short clips.
thoughts?

Thanks. I was assuming it was that simple.
Strange thing to do.

Thanks for the heads up on the deck control. Good to know.
It sounds from your opinion and others’ that the AJA cards is the way to go.
I still have two questions:
1) What does AJA offer for use on a MBP. Most all of our captures would be on the MacPro desktop, but I just want to consider options for portability from time to time. Would I need the IO HD via FW?
2) I have done some reading about importing DVCPro HD vs. ProRes. It sounds like ProRes is the obvious answer, and I also read that AJA provides almost exclusive hardware benefits (as opposed to matrox using the computers processor), but the AJA site says nothing about ProRes on the Kona LHi. But it does on the IO HD. Should I be worried? Is there something I am missing?
Appreciate all your help.

We don’t need any sort of particular confidence monitoring (just the basic DVI computer monitor). We capture and would print to a number of decks. (beta SP, beta SX, digiBeta, DVCPro, XD, miniDV, p2, dvd) It all comes through a router though and no deck is directly connected to the machine. Any cards in particular stand out for these needs?
Of our four editors, only one needs to be a capture/ingest station. Do you recommend that has the cards/box and the others can get away with just being powerful macs with no additional hardware?
We have never had deck control, since the decks are 1′ away from the ingest machine. Could be nice i guess though. thoughts?
So the AJA card is twice the price of the decklink you mentioned. Any reason or benefit to the AJA?
thanks for your feedback.

attached is a link to my scene
as I said, i have 9 colors (3×3) and i wish to have those 9 randomly alternate on the cap only of one mograph text object.
There are two materials on the text object. one white for all but the C1, and one with 9 multishaders on it for the C1
I wish to have the random effector or whatever else would work, alternate the colors on the C1
right now the multi shader is set to index ratio and they do not alternate even when the seed of the randomizer is changed.
(also when I do render the scene, the first few frames are way out of position, I’m guessing because of the plain/delay effectors, but I would like to solve that as well)

I’m sure I’m missing something, but would love some help.
thanks,
