A friend suggested not using the Genlock/Reference cable at all, and just hooking up the SDI In AND SDI Out. He said the SDI out from the card will feed the deck with stable black.

Have others had success with this method?

    Thank you,
    Matthew

Someone on the Apple Discussion forum gave me this excellent tip:

    PhotoZoom Pro
    https://www.benvista.com

Supposed to do a much better job at uprezzing than Genuine Fractals.

    Still open to other thoughts.

    thanks for your help.

    Sorry,

My post should have said “How to make high quality stills from video”.

I need to export stills from video and then process them in some way to look better, not just make a screen grab.

    re: Dell with FCP:

From the Barefeats article linked above:

    FCP PLAYBACK PROBLEM REPORTED
Readers have reported to me a problem with skipped frames during playback with Final Cut Pro using the Dell LCD 2405FPW display at 60Hz. Apple warns about problems with 60Hz refresh rate in an article on their web site. They recommend refresh rates of 75Hz or higher. After some experimenting on our Quad-Core with the FX 4500, we learned that the Dell 2405FPW can be set to 75Hz but only at 1024×768 or 1280×1024 resolution. The native 1920×1200 only can run at 60Hz. HP makes a 23″ LCD that can be set to 75Hz at 1600×1200 and 85Hz at 1280×1024, but can only run at 60Hz at 1920×1200.

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your reply.

Good suggestion about changing the compressor to Uncompressed before output. Screening copies are going out on DVD, so I can just send the Uncompressed output to Compressor for my MPEGs.

off topic, but I just looked on Amazon to read about your Compression book. I see it is from August of 2002. Is there a new version coming out? How “outdated” is it ?

    thank you….

    wow, that was quick….

OK, I’ll give it a try. I have it on a test Tiger partition, but I’m not using 10.4.x as my main system yet, due to being in the middle of a giant project.

Do you happen to know if DVDSP/Compressor2 are happy with 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 ? I’d rather not upgrade to QT 7.x yet.

    Ben,

You say Compressor 2 is the best MPEG-2 encoder on the Mac. I’m curious if you have done comparisons with BitVice and MegaPEG.
I need to encode PAL material with alot of motion. Do you know if Compressor still stands up to alot of movement in the frame?

    Thanks…
